How does a single indie animator (or with a few collaborators) create better NSFW anime animations than the entire Japanese hentai industry nowadays ?
Pink Pineapple, Bunnywalker, Mary Jane, Suzuki Mirano used to deliver such fine masterpieces. (We don't even talk about Queen Bee and Nur/ PoRo here). Nowadays there's a noticable degradation in quality. There's lack of "continuity" in sex animations... it's all just "gifs stitched together".
Maplestar's animations reminds me of Mary Jane in its prime. Like "Ane Yome Quartet" for example, such masterpiece. Sadly the JP hentai industry just churns out slops now. I hope Maplestar gets a lot of success, setting a standard for high quality NSFW works, and then inspire others to follow. I know this "authentic 2D anime screencap" style is truly what captivates lots of people's interest -- they look just like actual real anime episodes.

back then anime were looser when it comes to fanservice, as you would notice the common appearance of nipples, bare boobs, naked scene like actual hentai. Those are put in because while the main story is main feature, fanservice are there to get people's interest. As such it's a blending between anime and hentai industry and if you look at very old hentai you can see it features actual story than "hurr durr sex sex".
For the recent decades though, anime is now on their own and animators go straight to work in the industry instead. Unlike voice acting or manga, you don't need to go with R18 route (see: eroge VAs, Nagatoro's artist,...) before your name is popular enough to be hired into non-R18 works. Meanwhile hentai industry is stuck with barely any original movie anymore (why would you do that when all the creative authors are working on nukige or doujin) and adapting from popular doujin or so. The buyers either choose doujin (for 2D girls) or JAV (for 3D girls) because there are so many more variety and products out there.
Eventually there are not enough income compared to the money and effort needed for hentai. You need voice acting, animating, scriptwriting, editing... all the while when a single person can draw a doujin and sell thousands of copies online.
I guess MapleStar is just a special case because she dedicated and got a lot of supporters for that (and you know it's A LOT because it's not just one market, say, Japanese, but international level of supporters with how she chose the very popular anime to do). It's not that uncommon for you to see artists tackling on hand-drawn animating, it's just that it takes time and effort and there is little gain. They'd rather draw (and working another job) for a living and animate for hobby.
Criticism (at least constructive) is allowed. Feeling entitled is not. You get free hentai that's supposed to be paid. The least you can do is to rub one out. If you can't, okay, move the fuck on. If it let you off, then great.
Heck, I'd say that in this industry, you've got no right to criticize it considering that the hentai industry is declining and maplestar is one of the, or maybe even just the top tier hentai animator around. If you've not paid for shit, then you've got no right to criticize it. Even new hentai from hentai studios have been giving out slideshow 'animations' that loops for 4-5 frames.

watching this, i think it's only a matter of time we get pegging from maplestar
give that dude some leeway, he barely started, and i do believe that he can become somewhat like maplestar, although he has fewer frames in his videos, they are longer and have more scenes than maplestar's first videos. so i do believe that the same way maplestar's videos became longer, totonitos quality can also increase

Criticism of Maple's anime sparks lively threads, and while I feel anger towards it, I also agree.
His/her anime is undoubtedly superb in every aspect, but it's not suited for masturbation.
Because the focus is more on the process leading up to the erotic scenes and the story itself rather than the scenes themselves, it feels closer to watching self-contained short dramas or short anime.
Also, considering it for playing with my son, his/her anime has few practical H-scenes, and men appear on screen too much.
I'm not gay, so when male actors who talk a lot or show their faces appear, it dampens my enthusiasm a bit.

Thats what I thought about Maplestar's animations before, but I think they have heard some criticism abt that and made their latest video (the Alya vid) have more "practical H-scenes" as you said, would be wonderful if Maplestar would keep that balance between dialogue and action.
Also had a much easier time editing out some "unnecessary" bits from the latest Alya vids to make it more jack off friendly.
Yeah I love this artist work because it's more than a few minute sex scene it has a story to it and builds like a short film. loved this latest one.
You mean barely change them and release them for yourself?
This is the artist that shown us the frieren uncensored version.

I... don't really like the artstyle? It evokes old hentai in the way the genitals are drawn lazily and ugly.
