This a statement that's true but not being made with consideration for WHY that is. The f95 harem audience demands self inserts, it's not a spontaneous decision made in a vacuum.

Many of the 'first' AVNs were made without the ability to even rename protagonists until people here both bitched for that feature and the continued genericization of the main character to be homogenized into the same brunette late teens looking fair skinned guy. It's a very specific fixation of the audience here rather than the intention of EVERY game creator to make the game with the idea in mind that the protagonist is literally the player in every way.

The whole "doesn't even have a face" bit is wrong for the majority of games on here too. That's more of a japanese game thing.

In porn games most ppl do not care about the MC looks or its name, and creators save themselves the need of drawing it and at the same time they have less to worry about in the narrative of the story. They also dont have to worry about making the MC likeable for the audience. Hence shadow MCs where born due to a intersection of interests between ppl wants and game creators laziness.

I personally prefer a shadow MC rather than a badly drawn/written MC
