On an entirely different topic ... I thought this now-pinned post was a highly interesting recollection from HearzAM that they offered to the Melody Discord channel - the question was about how their games started and by whom, essentially.
I'll answer your question but if you have any follow up questions about DMD, make sure they are posted in the DMD channel Azure mentioned above.
So in the beginning (this week three years ago), MrDots himself came up with the story idea and the character designs all by himself.
He wrote the initial scripts and did all the proofreading by himself as well.
About three months into the game (around Day 4 of the game), DMD exploded in popularity, faster than he could've ever anticipated. Around the start of 2017, he put a post out on his Patreon asking if anyone would be willing to help him with scripts, ideas and proofreading. I private messaged him and let MrDots know that I'd written a bunch of stuff (for fun) and he liked what I'd written, and asked if I'd write a few scenes for DMD for him, along with a few other writers at the time. So it all began from there, and I've been working with him for two and half years now, whereas most of the other writers are long gone with a couple that drop in every now and then.
For Melody, it was a collective effort between myself, MrDots and Jeff Steel to come up with the story idea, characters we wanted and what the objectives in the game would be.
With only a 5 week time frame to come up with this, as well as a huge opening game release (demo if you will), we somehow managed to pull it all together and as you all know by now, we're not far off coming to a conclusion for Melody.
Before the problems with DMD and Patreon, we had no plans or ideas for a second game at that time. It was the furtherest thing from our minds in early 2018. So to be able to put together a brand new game together within a short time frame, and for it to be really well received upon it's release, is miraculous really, but also shows what we as a team are capable of. It's not always perfect but we're slowly getting there
I pushed for a music-themed VN when MrDots asked me what kind of game I personally would like to create. Music is one of my passions and if we'd had more time available when we started working on Melody, we would've had audio in the game from the very start.

You don't have to break up with them, they all have their own endings.
Melody isn't the only main love interest. Amy, Becca and Izzy all have endings if you follow their routes.
I "think" there are at least 2 left left.
I could be wrong and next could be last but I know it is ending soon and before the end of thr year so either this next one or the one after.

To be honest... It was kind of becoming apparent that an ending was near for the game, which, to be honest isn't necessarily a bad thing (as long as they deliver and make it a good ending).
For a game they pretty much had to come up with on the fly to transition from DMD to please the Patreon overlords they've done an amazing job.
Here's to hoping DMD will continue to evolve and stay enjoyable and hoping that whatever their next project is becomes just as good as these two
