I liked the webcomic and the original version of this, but this engine is absolutely killing me; no gallery with 5 saves, 8+ second transitions, and every time you
stop skipping, it's hard to resume. I don't mean to be "that guy," but have you considered Ren'Py?
I need a cypher to puzzle out this comment.
Please do not poke Happy Fun Time mods: we don't care how cool anyone in this thread is; this is a video game about a softboi and co. being forcibly diapered because reasons. (That's right, I colon-semicoloned. If anything
I'm cool.
)
First off, thank you for liking the webcomic and the original version! ^^ I am sorry to hear that the engine is proving to be an issue. I won't dismiss the idea of possibly transferring things over to Ren'py if it's possible without a lot of extra headaches, while doing so could be very good. It could also take up a lot of dev time away from new content right after the reboot process, which feels kind of like a drawback to some still even with all the expanded and new content added to existing moments, etc.
I will say this though! With update 0.08 it just added the final/finished gui elements and title/logo to the game. This means there's a on screen functional "skip" and "auto" buttons. So hopefully that will help make things more smooth for getting straight through parts of the game when needed. While the gui is finished in update 0.08, the cg & music gallery will be added very soon. (sorry for the wait, also music/sound effects not really added yet. Still focusing on visuals currently, but hoping to get music/sounds going by summer of this year based on our funding. Actual original music/sounds that is.)
There's still 5 save slots currently in update 0.08 with the new gui, but I'd like to expand on this also as it's requested quite a bit for more slots to use. Ideally at least 20+ to test if that's plenty for most people, but it shouldn't be too hard to add more when required. (sorry for the wait for this)
If you don't mind me asking about the transitions that's 8+ seconds long, which parts of update 0.07 are that long exactly? I know that once one section leads into the next (where it displays "Day 1 section 2, etc, etc.") before it continues, you should be able to click on the screen to skip the animation time for these transitions, I know it isn't as great as holding left ctrl down to let it continue through. But I do believe the new gui "skip" button actually skips through these section transitions on it's own. (that's update 0.08 though) I do know there's some rare moments in some sections that have slightly longer transition animations (intended with what's going on for the scene/dialogue). By all means, I do wish to adjust these transition times to make it feel just right but not "damn this shit's taking forever" level long.
I do understand what you mean though with the awkward trying to skip by using left ctrl, stop pressing it and it won't let you skip by pressing it again until the dialogue on the screen fully pops up in the text box. >.< (this is an issue even I have with testing different aspects and play testing new updates). I would like to say the "skip" button mentioned above will help fix these issues ten fold, but it's something I'll look into fixing if it can be done within the engine so it's flawlessly smooth.
Here's a little preview of what update 0.08 looks like with it's gui to help picture how things will work once update 0.08 becomes public.
(all menu screens are polished up and matches this scheme for the gui elements. "skip" of course skips through text, etc. until you click on the screen to stop it. "auto" will automatically play the text and move to the next lines of text for you without clicking endlessly. "log" will let you check previous mentioned text in case you missed something important. "save/load" easily said.. "menu" has functions to hide message (aka text box, but right click does this too), save, load, back to title, etc. "cog wheel icon" brings up the config menu to adjust bgm, sound, text speed, skip/auto speed. skip unread text off/on, etc. While not pictured above, the top left corner has a diaper icon that leads to the stat menu screen, clicking again returns back to the game. )
