Midnight Paradise Development Update
Hey everyone,
So I wanted to tell you some details about Midnight Paradise and its development process.
As most of you know it's a
Visual Novel - Sandbox hybrid.
It means you will be able to roam around the map and in different locations, like in the main home and various locations around town, but the story will progress the same way as it was with DoD. I think it's a good mix.
I've also thought of many great features to implement, I've talked about them in previous dev updates. I was actually overwhelmed by the amount of stuff I want to put in this game, so it being the hybrid game that it is, meaning it's not as linear as DoD is a great thing.
I want to focus on getting the
core of the game right in the first release, meaning
- navigating the map and locations - so you can visit the characters you like
- the objectives system - so you can progress the story and unlock actions with the characters (more on this below) - This will be (mostly) the VN element of the game
- the character interaction system - so you can talk to the characters, ask them about their backgrounds, opinions and perform different actions with them (this includes the sexy actions) which can be unlocked as you progress through the story and interact with them. I'm also planning to spice this up a little from the usual stuff you might have seen from other games
- the time system - so you can have different phases of the day where characters will do different things depending on the time of day, for example, sleeping (if you played DoD, you know that's creeping around time)
I will also introduce a bit of
responsibility to the main character in the first release.
He's a college student, and he has to keep his grades up, so he has to go to campus to study. Maybe even some private lessons?
Getting good grades is hard work. Something our main character doesn't really like, so of course he will have to find a way to lessen this responsibility of his and still get that college degree.
I want to put a lightweight stat system in as well, but decided that it won't be in the first release, as I don't want you guys to focus too much on this aspect, I want you to just enjoy the first release's
story and naughty fun, and slowly add more things to focus on later.
I also realized that trying to add everything from the get go would make the first few releases feel 'empty' because development time is spread across a lot of things at once, so I figured a good amount of story content at first is essential for you to enjoy this type of game even if it's a first release.
That's why this being a sort of modular game is great, because I can always put in some building blocks on the way and listen to your
feedback about the game and add and tweak things accordingly.
I thought about having to start over from the beginning when something major gets introduced would be annoying, as one of the Patrons told me, so I'm building the game from the start in a way that already seen content will be easily skippable.
And of course guys, let me know what you think in the comments!
And as always, thank you for your great support!
