Hard disagree. It got average reviews because its an extremely average game at best. It started out decent enough - not the best game, but plenty decent and enjoyable. It slowly went off the rails until becoming damn near hot garbage. The gameplay got worse, the writing got significantly worse, the narratives made no sense, the relationships and interactions with the LI's became a combination of nonsensical, boring, or just bad - in short, it went from good to awful averaging out to.... average.

I've heard it got better later on, but with how bad it got at one point I never bothered going back. The game should be a case study in what NOT to do.

I really enjoyed 1st act, everything was fine, even enjoyed the Mystery Kill game on a ferry (yeah, I'm weird ;))
2nd act though turned to be a huge mess (except 1st ep): dialogues, gameplay, as far as I'm concerned - they still can't fix import-data (your stats from 1st act) process.

I loved few characters a lot after 1st Act (still have Nora, Aubrey and Lindsey in my fav lists), so I honestly gave 2nd one a chance, and I actually liked the 1st episode (Elections) despite everything, but that's it, eventually I played till pool-party and didn't even finish episode, dropped it, I'll come back sometime to finish it, but at the moment all the thrill is gone for me unfortunately.

Is this the one where I keep hearing the dev hired some writers to help and they are considered to have screwed it up so he went back to writing it on his own?

Tbh I haven't kept up on it since I left it in the dust a while ago - but from what I remember hearing that sounds about right. I know the dev effectively "left" the game in the hands of others so he could go work on something else, and that's when it really got terrible - I do remember hearing he was coming back to it, but idk what ever came of that (or what came of his other project)

That makes sense then if so. Still, it's on my list to try (again?) at some point.

He came back and just ditched the other project (it got too expensive apparently), but there was also talk about another different project (so who really knows). One of the main writers that left was a female and it appears she was the best one, because it did go downhill. The latest update (after the pool party) seemed to be an improvement and it worked on relationship developments with the LIs, so we'll see how the next updates are (there is supposed to be three in the first half of 2025).

Lord knows my games aren't successful or popular enough to warrant the discussion, but there's no way I'd want to bring on additional people to the project - almost every time games do that after they've gotten a few releases, it's like the soul just leaves the game. In some cases they still manage to be successful, but much of the time they're just a shadow of their former selves.

People rag on DPC for long update cycles (ironically not even close to the longest ones around....) and refusing to hire help - but I get it. The more people involves, the bigger chance of the entire thing just going to shit.

I understand that. I have always struggled with delegating things to people. They never do it the way I want it done and I nearly always end up redoing it 'properly' afterwards. It's quicker in the long run just to do it myself.

If DPC bought people on, I don't believe it would shorten times at all (if he is the perfectionist he claims to be) and it wouldn't be the same.

Lol, I sooooo feel for you.
Many years ago I came into a marketing company as a regular worker to one of project branches, not even as team lead.
Though due to some circumstances and my fast learning skills in a matter of 6 months I became CMO in a whole holding with 27 people under my command.

That was a fucking hell. Basically first 3 months I'd been sleeping in the office due to lack of ability to properly delegate tasks, even after delegating I used to check some stuff thoroughly which in marketing sphere mostly means to do the task from scratch.
So, after watching my suffering for a while owner hired a dude to work with me personally, eventually it took months and months of hard work from him to change my state of mind
Mentally it was so fucking hard to trust people, especially when you know that you can do it better.

Damn, I'm late to the party.
College Kings was my 2nd AVN, after Sunshine Love, and unlike SL, it stood the test of time decently. It's basically a buggier BaDIK with worse writing, but its cast of LIs rivals BaDIK's imo (Nora is still the #1 AVN girl for me, after all), and its upside is that the whole environment is friendlier: the school's leadership actually controls things, the sororities are decent establishments worth joining, and the local "Alphas", while bullies, can be reasoned with and even joined instead of the local "DIKs".
The infamous Chapter 2 of CK2, where the writing crisis of the game happened in full swing, has been reworked; the remaining parts of the earlier version are basically some of the girls acting out of character, and that may hurt your experience if you're their fan from CK1, but otherwise okay. The most glaring examples got retconned in CK2 Ch. 3.

Overall, in my book, it's worse than BaDIK and a bit worse than Law School, but beats University of Problems easily.

How come I fin this thread of yours only now MiltonPowers ?

You folks put so much effort into it I feel bad... thou have to admit I share A LOT of prefrences with you:

Dusklight Manor: exactly the same
Intertwined: I'd only replace Brooke with Nikki
BADIK: I'd "only" replace Jill with Bella
Erotica: exactly the same
Pine falls: exactly the same
Chasing Sunset: ehh I don't like Mallory (I'm probably the only one on the face of the earth?)

And so on... see I'm too lazy to even just list mine

It looks like we share the same in the Daniels K games. :)

Lots of folks don't like his VNs, I personally like them, especially the shared setting (well except for Erotica), but the choice of LI's... I mean is pretty easy. :ROFLMAO:
There is so many of them where I prefer the side girls to the LIs, so good thing he gives them endings or I would end up dropping a few of them.

I really like it. It's very similar to a Being A Dik, and not as good imo, in story or in gameplay, but it does have it's good points and I find it enjoyable. The story started great, but with a change of writers, it has gone downhill I think. I'm playing 6 paths, and there is a wide variety of girls to choose from. You can play College Kings 1 as a manwhore path, but need to spilt into paths for CK2 as the girls start to find out about each other and start to lock each other out. If you do like Being A Dik, I would recommend playing, you might find you hate it, some people do, but some others like it better.
Very much agree, considering the huge size of the game (every update was like 15-20 GB) and started off great that showed lots of promise. Then all of a sudden you could easily see where the writing/development went completely off the rails, if not into a "Bizzaro World" where everything just became backwards (up is down and everything all around). Especially with that whole "Charlie" arc where all of a sudden every girl loved him and the MC was tossed to the side like he became Imre.

The whole KCT thing makes it even more difficult to stay on paths for who you want, without having to do hundreds of playthroughs because the girls change personality/attitudes more than Mother Nature in a week (hot/cold, snowy/sunny/stormy)! At least in BAD you already know in 1st chapter which girls you have a chance with depending if you're a on one or the other instead of 5-6, then have to start all the way back from the beginning.

Who knows maybe one day we could get a cross-over type of collab where it all makes sense, we can only dream though :ROFLMAO:

Haven't played this, but the same picture's used for "Hannah" and "Zuri". Is that right?

This is not my first account, I deleted my old account and started a new one, so this was not all in a year. (LOL). I started in 2017. But it's only the last couple of years I started sharing my notes and pictures and comments and getting actively involved here. :)
Well good to know this isn't what you've played in a year, or in 2 months haha. :p So I won't have to worry you'd turn into:

Nope, that's not right. I'll need to fix it, thanks for letting me know.

:ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

I have 2 of Talothral's & Khan on my to try list. They didn't grab me like some others so I haven't been in a hurry.
