The mind control/corruption aspect is handled through drugs that must be researched/developed/manufactured by the MC owned business. The last update was a month ago. We are told that work is continuing, the preceding update was in May, 2024.
There is a great deal of content and various options for various NPC's. This is not a quick game to get through in an afternoon's game-play! On the other hand, due to its sandbox nature, it is something to which you can return day after day.
