Ren'Py - Completed - Mist [v1.0.3] [395games]

This game had the potential to be a masterpiece but it unfortunately is not. The story and the premise is very interesting, if the game wasn't sandbox I feel like it could have pulled off the story much better in a kinetic novel kind of way.

Some pros and cons according to me

Pros

-the premise is extremely interesting

-the visuals are very good, especially the environmental designs

-the girls are cute

Cons

-extremely repetitive and grindy and the rewards for grinding are non existent, even in "feast" mode it's extremely repetitive.

-some of the dialogues, especially by MC are laughably bad and he comes across as a sleazy slimebag sometimes. For example when MC was in his supposed deathbed the last thing he said was "I wish we could have had sex".

-the sex scenes are a turn off. First of all the animations are really bad and the weird slimy sound that plays during the sex scenes are also very bad. Secondly, the writer has some weird infatuation with bodily odours, in almost every sex scenes the characters talk about weird stuff like liking MCs pungent aroma or how much they are turned on by the sweaty smell of his dick. Not everyone is into that and forcing that into almost every sex scene is a major turn off.


Overall I think the game started with a good idea but over time lots of poor decisions accumulated and made it into a not so enjoyable experience.

Masterpiece.

It's atmospheric horror, but doesn't rely on jumpscares, it has a fun core gameplay loop, it has compelling romances and fantasy drama and nice, believable art... this is a prime piece of software.

This is one of only two adult-content games that I would wholeheartedly recommend to people who aren't into porn for its own sake, because this makes a great argument that adult games should have high production and effort.

Plus, there's the iconic bonfire scene.

The game presents, in my opinion, a great concept, and it's very close to be a good game. I like the art, the atmosphere and ambiance of the story. The writing is definitely above average for sex games, but still something is missing, or rather, it's to bloated. Now what I didn't like, first the game has a horror element that is just not well explored, there's blood and gore but then it's like nothing happened. The sex scenes animations are laughably bad, it's lika a conceptual art, very slowly paced and acted, every scene has the same slime sound, the MC's dick sometimes its giant and sometimes is like 'normal'. It's just AWFUL. I mean, it is a sex game, so it is NOT worth the time just for this. The teasing part is good, since the characters are ok, but the sex part itself it is... bad. So for the sex part I don't recomend this game, and for the game part, it is even worst, WITH CHEAT ON IS A HASSLE TO PLAY THIS GAME. Very repetitive and boring. There's no good part to it, it's plain awfuly bad. 2 star for the concept, I feel it would be really easy to turn this game into a four star game. But as is...

A pretty nice game IMO: I quite like the story and the characters (it's you and the LIs mostly). I found the balance between tensed moment and light ones good. The gameplay is okay to me, not much and a little repetitive with lots of back-and-forth, but works fine with the horror theme. I really liked the ambiance. I liked the art style a lot as well.
Would definitively recommend it. Bought it on itchio.

Awesome game. I love the renders. They have the cartoony look with a realistic vibe to them. The models fit the story well I think. And they look great. Whoever made them deserves a raise cause they look amazing.

Story was interesting as well. I was never a big fan of VN games, so I was glad that even though this game was a RenPy, it wasnt a true VN.

Last arc feels like a drag but holy smoke game is amazing.
I like all the characters but I like Lily the most.
I wish we have more Lily scenes.
The only thing that bugs me is when you go back you still facing the front which looks like you moonwalk back home.

Pros
-Animation quality is the best in the games I've played. Moreover, animation was used not only in sex scenes but also in narrative scenes.
-The ambiance of the game is very fascinating.
-Thriller, survival and fantasy themes are used well in the game.
-The plot is interesting.

Cons
-Not all girls are likeable and since there is no choice, it is impossible to refuse/avoid.
-The ending of the story is not well connected and feels kinda incomplete.
-The map system is very grindy, it takes a lot of time.

+ I love the simple combat system and giving me a choice if I want to do light melee, heavy melee, ranged, or magical attack, or flee the situation. Very cool.

> I at first gave the ending an negative until I played through the ending a 2nd time. It does feel once they get to the cave that things are drawn out a bit much compared to the pacing of the earlier part of the story, so less thrilled about that.
Other than that, the ending does NOT feel rushed and the battle is difficult if playing without a cheat. The ending makes sense. This is overall one of the better VN stories for writing a mystery story with a logical ending.

+ I appreciate the characterization and even spending time in front of the fire or stargazing to get to know each other better.

OVERALL:
Well worth the time spent for a story that you'll want to read, not just skip to what you may find as sexy scenes or hot scenes.

A very good game which could be an exellent one.
The beginning of the game was the most promising start I have ever seen for a project period. Original but beatiful art, simple(if a bit flat) yet attractive characters, and the best part of the story - mystery elemens that elevated the game from a porn to an exciting game in itself. But as the time passed and the story developed, I believe that the quality of the mystery in the story dropped significantly, and this decreased the quality of the experience. You start of in a familiar world suddenly turned alien because of the strange mist, where strange and dangerous monsters roam, and this ends with you brawling it one-on-one with a disney villain with a personality of a cardboard. Why is he evil? Why do they want to take over the world?
And the ending was not what I expected as well. Seriously, you just stay in your cabin? What the hell happened to the rest of the world? Is the humanity doomed? Why is nobody addressing it? Hey, at least you have a pregnant harem I guess. Shame you five are the literally only remaining humans on the planet!
So in the end, a good game, but the main element of the story, mystery, didn't have a satisfying payoff.

Final Version - No Spoilers

This was a great game. It took a little while to get into at first because there didn't seem to be harmony between the serious story being told and the lighthearted interactions with the first female character. Everything settles into place eventually, and for the majority of the game, the tone is more serious - thus, the story is more believable - than not.

The gameplay combined with the storytelling to make a surprisingly enthralling experience. Not all of your time will be spent advancing the story, but I disagree with other reviewers who call this a grindy game. I went out of my way to overpower my character because I always wanted to be prepared for the next event to come, but the game is designed so that you can slowly progress through the story while simultaneously pursuing other events in the main hub. Those events include things like romantic events and conversations with the characters to learn more about their backgrounds.

The girls themselves were pretty good characters individually, but once the harem was fully assembled, they all behaved too similarly. Like someone else remarked, I also began to speed through their sex scenes in the latter half of the game.

Overall, this is a fun game with an engrossing story. The visuals are remarkable all throughout, and it's clear that so much time was spent on making interesting maps for exploration. The pacing towards the end is screwed up, and the final events don't live up to the excitement from earlier on, but this is still a game worth playing and finishing.

Well, my expectations were pretty high and it delivered... kind of.

At first, I was fascinated by the setting. The development was good and the gameplay was quite fun, but it turned a bit repetitive and sometimes grindy.
The story turned up way deeper and more emotion thatn I thought of, which was a huge surprise.
The art style is very unique and enjoyable, but I will have a complain about it later on.

However, sadly there isn't as much horror as I thought there was going to.
The lewd was the biggest disappointment though. It was very boring and simple on 90% of the times, and made worse by the art style, which didn't quite become a turn on for me.

I hope the devs will develop further on this idea, and hopefully we will see more horror games in the AVN world. And also, hopefully more devs will take gameplay/world building mechanics like these and push forward with them.

Gameplay: 5/5, the combat was interesting and even the stealth mechanics were done really well. while it's not my favorite gameplay loop within the sandbox genre, it's the best within it's own self contained world and makes thematic sense. I did get lost when the tunnels came up a bit but that's due to exhaustion more than anything.

Story: 5/5. I came here to fap and was pleasantly suprised by the stories depth and dark themes. sometimes I felt that it was being dragged on but the payoff was always and I mean this with my soul, always worth it. the moments where it drags out a bit long fit thematically and work so well once you get to the payoff that it's incredible.

Art: 5/5, phenomenal art style. reminds me of overwatch mixed with it's own unique spin. the best part is that the quality is consistent, the models don't suddenly become 4k out of nowhere, the animations don't suddenly get way better they are consistently good. the only thing that did irk me was the cum animations being a little inconsistent, the curse overlay seeming flat and the male model not fitting the style.

Characters: 5/5, I'm not going to go into each individual character since theres 600+ other reviews that probably do. Long story short, phenomenal characters, with most of them having great development. I wish we got a little more depth and exploration into 2 girls but I still absolutely enjoyed them all and feel additional scenes would've hurt the games pacing.

Overall: 5/5, the world, story, characters developments is all so well done. the story even closes so well I'm actually shocked since I expected some Ren'Py trash and got gold. This is the H-Game that everyone should experience if even slightly interested.

I would have liked if all the human girls had ended up with some kind of scar for the final fight.

Close to perfect porn game for me. i wish i can support you for making a lot of games like this. Gameplay was fun for a time so next game you will make have to be diffren or more advance. More surving elements could be good i think. Thanks for the game.

Good game mechanics, but they become very repetitive early in the game and there's no change while you progress with the story. Very engaging story, unique and captivating, but a little bit too extensive. The game felt just a little bit too big, story-wise. The design choice for the characters and the game is quite unique, with some flaws where and there it may be a little difficult for some to get used to it, but once you do, you'll enjoy it even more. Sex scenes are well paced with good art and details and, most important, super lewd.

Overall is a good game and that includes it's one of those that actually have some gaming elements there that are not just story choices (getting food, tools, fighting...) while still being mostly a VN.

The graphics are good, the gaming elements are mostly right, the feeling of darkness and the awe for discovering new places and abilities, and the characters are nice too. I just think storywise I got a bit tired of it (it easily won't happen to you and it happened to me quite late in the game
I still highly recommend it and think is one of the best, I'm completely looking forward for the next project of 395games and I hope you don't get the same problem I got there, I just thought it was honest to tell it as it is a really high-scored game (totally deserved) so in case you didn't get the same feeling you don't think you're alone there.

Its a good mostly vanilla-ish harem game, love the paranormal/supernatural aspect of it.

BUT, it is basically a kinetic novel, it would be cool if there were different endings, or some of the girls and also being able to pick your wife.

The Girls:

Noreia is the most interesting girl here and the one with the hottest body, I wished she wouldve gotten more scenes with more kinks though, she is mostly a vanilla girl. <----- Best Girl

Robin is up there with Noreia and probably the most beautiful girl out ouf the 4, if the game let you pick what girl to romance and what not, she and Noreia would probably be the "canon" ones.

Lily is okay, but the whole dynamic between the brothers, is kinda just.... not that deep?, it goes from I shouldnt be thinking about her like this to doing sexual stuff with her without giving MC an option or have him work for it, afterall, she shouldve beeen the hardest girl to romance being that she is literally MC's sister and an awkward girl.

Mia.... I.... didn't really like her, she is really useful almost to the point of seeming like a mary sue character and overshadowing the other girls both in scenes and doing things for the group, leaving that aside she is also not that good looking compared to the other girls. (Sorry Mia fans)


Overall the game would have been better if it let the player have a choice in everything, girls, scenes, consequences for doing something wrong without a game over, and of course, having multiple endings.

unique art style instead of the same model packs you see everywhere

bad:
the grind. oh the grind. even if playing in "feast" mode where you do not need to worry about food, you will be grinding constantly. annoying fights without much difference. lots of waiting for tasks to complete.

No perverted or illegal stuff, good graphics and animations, GREAT story and character development. It is not perfect, like s, but will be a while until another one this good comes out.

Story is pretty decent but it lacks choices, its just the standard shitty 100% linear sandox type wth no freedom, your forced to follow the set questlines and you dont even have an option in what MC does with the girls, i had hoped you could skip shit with girls if you dont like em but no, first girl MC meets and he turns into a pervert, first thing he comes up with "you can sleep with me in my bed" i mean really? like 20 seconds after meeting her? then he gets her shirt wet and MC starts touching her? what is this a b-porn movie? its idiotic.


For me the story and the writing means everything for a game, its what makes or breaks a game.

I did like the sandbox part and staying alive idea.

But i am not a fan of how MC acts mostly around the girls, he turns into a 15 year old virgin in hes thoughts, i mean he gets a hug from hes sister who has all her clothes on while hes sitting in a torture room waiting to get hes balls smashed with a hammer and yet he gets a boner, gimme a break....its to stupid.
He also tries to be a male dom which absolutly fails and dosent suit him at all compared to how he normaly acts.

For me it just ruins the game when the text is so cringy, when its leading up to a sex scene and doing the scene, its like there is no passion or feelings, it might as well be a visit to the local brothel...it gets so bad that when it starts i can only think "oh not again" and want to fast skip past it.
Its also bad that the so called first virgin scene still shows up every now and then and MC still say "isent this your first time" even after you fucked her 50 times, should have been a one time scene not a repeat.

The hole sister crap i also find pretty stupid, i mean MC constantly thinks he dont want to fuck her, then he wants to, then not....same over and over, even when she is about to suck hes dick he tells her no bad idea and to stop it multiple times but she refuse to, which in its own right is a form for rape, no means no....of cause MC could just stop her if he really wanted to, which makes it even more stupid that he constantly thinks it a bad idea and illigal and so on....just goes on for waaay to long, all the way back to where he found her first, also you have to use incest patch or it simply just dosent make sense in the text with the sister.

Main was fine but gets ruined by poor writing when leading up to sex scenes and doing sex scenes its just to cringy and the lack of choices and freedom kills it as well.

I enjoyed the sanbox aspect of the game or should say the survival part of it, since i dident like the linear part one bit, it ruins the game.

I am not really into the cartoon like style of the faces, but that a side the rest looks good.

I really liked the animations both in sex scenes and the small ones doing story, some of the best ive seen in a long time if you remove the crazy sound effects, but dident like when MC cums since it looks like glue coming out of a bottle, it just looks very worng.

It just dident do much for me, its not all bad but it also could have been better to create moods in scenes, doing sex scenes its just really bad it sounds like your fucking a pool of slime its just way to much.
