The idea for that is fine, good even, but I think "gift this NPC fish over and over" is the wrong way to break it up. I actually do like sandboxes, it's just depends on how they are implemented. Obviously it's your game you make it how you'd like, but I think RenPy sandboxes do it best when they just give me that freedom to explore and, should you want to use an affection system, give me like little repeatable events or something that expand on characters (or just create some cute moments with them). Minigames can be fine too (though I think some will disagree) but look at fishing for example. I've played plenty of similar games that have actual fishing mechanics, this is essentially just a dice roll on if you catch one or not with no player input. Plus stamina limitations as well just make it a bit annoying to put it simply. Thanks a lot for the feedback! My thought process when creating the sandbox part was to supplement my lack of writing skills with some sort of a "pause" so the players didn't come in and simply started fucking everyone. I don't really like sandboxes either, but when making the game I was all but confident on my writing, so I resorted to it. But if people don't like it, I might make the section shorter and just try new things out. Thanks again!
Honestly I think just being able to explore the village in the first place acts as enough of a break up on it's own. Maybe instead of gifting that NPC fish, create an event of us fishing with him to raise affection. Then an event where we cook for him like his quest entails. I kind of forget the details to his lewd scene since M/M content personally isn't my thing, but you get the idea. Don't sell yourself short, I think the main goblin girl is cute and her writing is fun so far.
