It's probably pointless to hope for such thing, because realistically there's no real audience for this sort of thing in a game with setup like this. People who pick it up based on how feminine MC looks, the harassment tags and all the other cues, do it with expectation the MC will be perpetually picked on and submissive, and have no interest in seeing MC acting contrary to these expectations down the road. On the other hand, people who might want to see such content are unlikely to put up with loooong stretches of early game where the MC only ever acts submissive, scared, crying and all sort of things they hate and don't want to "self-insert" into.
It me, I'm the unicorn this sort of thing would be for.

I like stories where a cute boy with little confidence learns to be braver and the game has already shown hints of this. The side of him that unlocked the Council of Rikos was his dormant boldness and despite the expectation that Onori would just bully him while he's a perpetual wimp, what really caught her interest was Riko having the nerve to stand up to her.

So far the dev has put actual care into this story and even if it does end up being entirely linear it'll probably be this mix of both rather than trying to cater to people who just want another sissy boy game or guys who get titled by even the suggestion that they're not going to be in an uncontested dominant position.

I don't -really- want Onori for instance to just bully and fuck him with no pushback or for the story to take that "this brat needs to be taught a lesson" stance; what I'd like to see is Onori pursuing Riko with that boyish forwardness of hers, Riko freaking out at first, and then gathering his selves together to form a plan on how to fight back. A route where they're going back and forth, in other words, and Onori likes it because he's the only one her age who's -really- putting up a fight and he likes it because he's both learning to stick up for himself and trying to parse enjoying being in what manly Riko would consider 'the girl's position'.

Audiences' expectations don't -really- need to be catered to beyond basic quality-of-life adjustments; start doing that and they'll soon be making more and more outrageous demands. As long as the story knows what it's doing and generally agrees with itself it'll attract attention, especially if it's not just offering the exact same thing everyone else is doing.

That's your preference and that's cool, but then where does that leave everyone who signed up for a story of submissive girly boy, who don't want to see him "fight back" but instead get dominated further? Are they supposed to keep playing game which now isn't what they wanted, or collectively just shuffle out and go find something else to play?

Of course, "the game could just do both" but leaving aside that so far it's been entirely linear in progression of each sub-arc, this also means slowing the development at least by half, since the dev would be effectively doubling the work. Or tripling, if they -also- sought to provide those who do want "this brat to be taught a lesson". I don't know if many people would be happy with it. (that's a lie, i'm pretty sure -nobody- would be happy with it)

You say it as if porn stories don't get naturally more and more outrageous as they go as it is.:coffee:

(not to mention, there's nothing wrong per se in catering to increasingly more outrageous demands in a porn story. "Oh noes, they've gotten vaginal sex and now they are demanding a threesome?" Fetch me salts and a fainting couch, please)

i'd rather they made it like a branching option for whichever you'd like to see

Literally yes, there are a ton of games that cater to both of those extremes already. This is not a bait and switch; it's been clear and consistent about building Riko up rather than tearing him down from the start.

This is a case where some people saw futas and feminine-looking boys, thought they knew exactly what they were getting, then fainted on their couches when it turned out that the dev didn't just tow the line.

"This should just be like everything else! No one's going to play this!" is the exact sort of thing I'm talking about when I say that expectations don't need to be catered to overmuch. If you let the shouts of an audience that just wants to see the same things over and over steer the course they'll just keep insisting that you cater to them specifically rather than tell the story that you want to tell. Audiences will respond if the dev shows passion and commitment to their premise.

I think we might've played a different game, because any "building up" i've seen is very much a joke how no matter how much Riko tries he still inevitably ends up with the girls walking all over him as they please. There weren't even any hints of him developing any different personalities until literally weeks into the game. For a supposed clear and consistent buildup, it seems neither consistent nor clear. And there's nothing in the game's description or the developer's notes that'd suggest this is the direction the game would be heading:

Planned: Futa on Male, Femboy, Feminization, Corruption, NTR, Femdom, Exhibitionism, Pegging, Futanari, Incest, Crossdressing, Gender Bend

Do you get any impression from these tags that the planned content is not Riko getting further and further stepped on, and instead it's him somehow becoming the dominant or at least not only a feminized receptible for some futa cock? Because if you do, i'd be curious to hear just what made you think that. Considering i'm not seeing even vaginal sex there.

This is exactly what I'm talking about. You're looking at tags and assuming the boilerplate narrative. That's working backwards and literally ignoring the text.

Riko having low confidence and going along with anything at the beginning is -so- he can develop and the game's been upfront about this. It has him getting fitter (and complaining about it the whole time, but he's trying!), trying to stand up for himself, having talks with his aunt about how he doesn't need to be ashamed of how he looks and so on. Even Onori doesn't -really- try to make him feel bad about himself; if anything she's pushing the hardest for him to improve because that's one of her interests - one that she's excited to share because the rest of her family are either couch potatoes or pushovers.

The idea that a cute boy has to be torn down in order to have receptive sex isn't actually based on anything. You can totally have him get more confident and have femdom sex and have him on the receiving end. This game's been pushing that and it does in fact have fans and very positive reviews. What isn't suggested anywhere except this comment is it needs to be more typical to get an audience.

What i mean is when the tags and other information provided about the game upfront all align in direction that appears completely boilerplate, you can't really claim it is not a "bait and switch" if the game diverges from such course mid way through.

This is not working backwards but quite the opposite, this is the direction people normally go -- first they check description what the game is about along with the tags etc and then they play it. If the plot they experience in the game does not match the description then it is the very definition of bait and switch.

The idea that a cute boy has to be torn down in order to have receptive sex isn't actually based on anything.
You are pretty much contradicting yourself here when in the same post you acknowledge that this sort of a plot is "the boilerplate narrative". Please, be honest for a moment -- this sort of expectation really doesn't come from nowhere, but from literally dozens of games which present this sort of a plot, with this sort of tags and characters.

This is a bit like saying that if a game comes with NTR tag then the idea one of partners in a relationship is going to cheat on the other isn't actually based on anything. I mean yes, technically you can have a game with such tag and then make a narrative about how unfaithful pair learns to reconcile and turns entirely monogamous "and then they lived happily ever after" etc, but if such development is not mentioned in the description, then it'd be very disingenuous to act as if people who didn't predict such take and were surprised by it... somehow had zero basis for making presumptions they'd be getting a more typical NTR story.

Those expectations are based in other stories which this one has zero obligation to follow. It's not a bait and switch just because it didn't do what you were expecting based on the premise. My first post in this topic was about how taken aback and excited I was to see that it was doing something different once I actually started playing it.

And it does distinguish itself right out of the gate. There are no coy """landlord""" euphemisms; the incest angle is out in the open. It doesn't tease a sissy narrative and then swerve away; in the first scene where it could have gone in that direction it pointedly steers in the opposite to set the tone. It doesn't suggest cruel femdom and then fail to deliver; all the characters are pretty affectionate to the point where even the one who's prone to crossing lines doesn't truly intend to be mean.

Telling a new story with familiar pieces really shouldn't be seen as a problem, especially when it's clearly cooking.

There's no obligation, but if the game did nothing to dispel such expectations despite appearing at a glance like any other typical story, effectively supporting such expectations, then the player with such expectations very well can feel like it's a bait and switch.

And it does distinguish itself right out of the gate. There are no coy """landlord""" euphemisms; the incest angle is out in the open.
That's not really a narrative distinction, but one based entirely on whether the author is naive enough to play chicken with the publishing platform which prohibits incest.

None of these really distinguish somehow from the stock narrative. These commonly start nice and gentle and then only ramp up as they go. The sissy narrative is introduced gradually, much like in this very game for this matter, where you have Onori just about starting the angle how MC is actually more of a girl than she is, mocking his lack of masculinity, small penis and failure to perform sexually.

I think you make a mistake in your argument regarding my stance -- i'm not saying that the typical player is going to expect specifically cruel femdom and humiliation and that the game must have these or it will disappoint them. What i am saying is that they are likely to expect some sort of femdom, sissification and submissive behavior from MC, based on the game's tag. As opposed to, as some seem to expect here, that the MC will "grow to stand up for himself" and somehow get on equal (if not plain dominant) footing with the girls.
