My protagonist is intentionally different from the others. Not so much for marketing reasons, but for a moral one. A lot of men start losing their hair in their 20s–30s, while others are luckier and lose it in their 40s–50s, or never at all.
There’s still a strong stigma against people who go bald not by choice but due to forces beyond their control. My game won’t change the world, let alone people’s perspectives, but at the very least, I wanted to try to normalize it by making my protagonist a bald man with a beard.
Men bald with beard are cool! Problem is zero-head-hair! Looks like alien.
The POVs I’ll include in the upcoming chapters will all be tied to three characters: Alex, Anna, and Sierra. Molly was an exception, because it was too interesting to show her perspective; otherwise, she would’ve just been another one of Alex’s conquests. By letting players live through those two scenes with her, you now understand better what she thinks and what her motivations will be moving forward in the story. POVs from characters like Molly will remain situational and serve as narrative tools to give deeper insight into the psychology of certain characters who, until now, could only “speak” through their relationship to Alex.
Exactly! That's what makes POV interesting. But, if you don't mind me saying, full story POVs are more enticing and exciting. For example, you tell the whole story under one perspective. You'll let us wondering: "Hey, but is this really what happened that time? She said one thing, but is this really what she thinks?" This kind of thing. THEN, you develop a whole new "game" ("DLC" might be more precise), showing the complete story under the perspective of another character. For example, all the story on Anna, showing Anna's thoughts, feelings, and off-camera actions. Like what she REALLY did at the beach on ch 4, and so on...
I say DLC, because it will the liked with the "main game", and the entire POV will consider the choices you made in your last save game you played until the end. All your choices on main save will be reflected on the POV.
Would be even more cool if you could react differently to the choices you made as Alex. I know, can't be a great change, or the entire story would change as well. But small changes would be fun to see.
I know, it's a HUGE lot of work, but I assure you, as a player, it'd be a lot of fun to see this done. AND you can build a lot more of hype about the game, when you keep some cards a secret until the end, and then reveal some after the end. OF COURSE, I DON'T WANT TO WAIT UNTIL THE END TO KNOW STUFF, but for a game dev could be a nice choice!
