The problem is that authors of fiction always somehow inform the reader that the action of their work takes place in an alternate reality. In this case, any distortions of the world order relative to our world are acceptable. But K7 never indicated that the action of his game takes place in a parallel universe or something like that, except that we do not know what country the main character lives in (I assume it is Canada). Therefore, it would be logical to see all things as they were in the described era. Seeing a modern smartphone in the early 2000s is as strange as seeing a refrigerator and television in the Middle Ages. Such oddities greatly spoil the sense of time, and as a result, do not allow you to fully immerse yourself in the world described by the author.
You are wrong. The author lives in Germany. But the modern smartphone trickens. Apparently, only such a resource model was available for purchase.

I know K7 lives in Germany. I assumed the game was set in Canada, since it is largely an English speaking country, and the game mentions that it is also set in an English speaking country.

My understanding is that all (2.5) of K7's games exist in an unnamed fictional European country, somewhere in the middle of the "arm" -- maybe between Italy, Germany and France ... which I guess would make it a fictional Switzerland ...

Geographically, it could be Switzerland, but the vast majority of the population there speaks German and French. Unless the Swiss suddenly want to speak English to each other... but no, that won't happen (which is probably for the best).

Again, fictional country, not actually Switzerland, and pretty sure the actual location is intentionally undefined.

I asked K7 about this personally, and he answered the same thing, that it is a fictional country with an English-speaking population. Although I am almost sure that a specific country was taken as a basis with some changes. However, we (the players) understand that there are countries more similar to what the author describes, and there are completely different ones. It would be strange to assume that it is Mexico, India, the UAE or Russia.

Takeing patterns from real country makes writing very easier. You don't have to invent everything from scratch, just adjust the details to the story. Sometimes realities come from several countries.

You could imagine that instead of Switzerland in that spot, it's Rhode Island ...

With no offense, but that purely sounds like a you issue. This is the first time someone actually complained about this or other "non time conforming things" in my games. Since I don't give a time when the game plays ( nor a country ) you can make up whatever you want, but that doesn't make it right or canon in anyway. If you 100% need something like that to immerse yourself in the game then I sadly can't help, since I'm won't provide the time the game plays nor the country etc.

Simply because there were no such problems before. MNF and MNM take place around our time and nothing says that it is the future. Although it seems to me that the events of MNF are about 7-10 years earlier than MNM, I don't know how you intended.

You don't need to name the time and country. It's enough to show household items of that era and the players will immediately understand when and approximately where the action takes place. I'm sure it would be strange for you to see MC in a top hat and riding a horse-drawn carriage, while everything around would be modern.
P.S. I don't know daz3d well and, perhaps, old phones from the mid-2000s are simply not in its libraries. In this case, you could have said so directly.

The beauty of a VN is that you can forget time and space. 1 person thinks it is canada and another sees it as his or her own country. To have the fantasy to add you own imaginair accents to the game. I can relate it to things happend in my life, but you can see it totally different. And that is for me a great aspect of the games killer7 made and still makes, it is open for your own thoughts.

Can we set one of the stories in the Fallout universe? 50s era juxtaposed with the Institute's "future" tech.

I think the reason Killer7 doesn't have to announce that some of the choices are based on asset availability is because it's common sense.

The only clues (at least as far as I can remember) we've gotten about where either game is set are:

MNF:

It was part of the Roman Empire in ~CE 600 (Becca in the roman place she takes you during the second vacation), it's not Germany (idle dialogue during first vacation), it's not Spain (multiple explicit mentions of Spain as being far away (like Fiona offering to fly the MC there)) and it's not Italy (Likely, MC says "While my classmates were off exploring Italy).

It's possible to reach other countries by rail (First vacation, on the train, "don't fall asleep we might end up in a different country" or words to that effect).

Everyone speaks English there (Sun's dialogue).

It's coastal and at worst temperate (presence of palm trees, general climate).

MNM:

References between the games mention an architect in a "different country", so we know it's not in the same country as MNF.

My best guess is that MNF is set in an alternate history version of earth where there was an American (or maybe British) occupation zone in Italy that gained independence somepoint after WW2, kept the language and a distinct identity to Italy proper, and that game is set there.

More interesting to me at least is when the two games are set relative to each other. It kind of seems like they're both set in each other's futures, with dialogue in MNM talking about Maddie already having her fitness channel being set up, and dialogue in MNF implying that the MNM MC's amnesia is a thing that is in the past.

As for technology... idk, maybe everyone in MNM just have really old phones and MNM:TB is set shortly after the invention of smartphones in universe... it doesn't really matter.

Hello there you wonderful and super wholesome people!

Another week, another progress update!

First, thank you guys so much for being so understanding regarding my post last week. I really hate when I can't deliver on something I promised and I have to be held accountable for not giving you guys what you deserve - updates for the games. With me being sick I kind of had an excuse, but I still want to make it up to you guys, that's why I said that if you were a supporter in March, you'll get acces to the first beta of Chapter 2 regardless. Just message me once it's released and you get the links directly ( I can't really contact you on my own regarding this, so please reach out once the post is up! ). The good news is that I'm more or less fully recovered now. It's weird, "back in the day" a cold usually only lasted for 3-4 days max, now I'm basically bedridden for 1 1/2 weeks, feeling like shit. Maybe it's because I'm getting old, but maybe it's also because the colds are getting stronger. No idea.

Anyway, I'm also more or less done with the script and started to transition into making all the renders. I kinder underestimated that this first part of the first Chapter 2 day is way longer than I anticipated, but I think that's a good thing. For example, the ultra long Rei event you have after her reveal is my longest single person event for any game I made so far. I hope it's interesting enough for you to enjoy, especially since the MC will share a lot of information this time. The second event will be with Jackie, like I mentioned two weeks ago, and if you pay attention there she will mention a lot of things that will explain a few traits of Sarah in the original game. Since Jackie is also adopted it makes sense that he can see paralels to Sarah later on, even though she knew that she is adopted, compared to Jackie who only recently found out. Still, this event will show how close the MC and her are and from the looks of it, Jackie might want to be even closer. That's for you to decide though, if you want to open this path with her. Todays render is Amelie, though, in her dorm room. With Amelie I'm basically jumping into new waters since she is a character that is completely "new", she has no ties or connections to anyone, something I have never done before. If you think back to MNF, all of the girls were somehow connected to each other - Even Dianna, who was in contact with Fiona before etc. I hope you guys will enjoy Amelies company, though, especially since her first appearance was rather dramatic.

While the renders are being made I usually go back to Chapter 4 of My New Memories, which is almost at the length of the first prequel release - and I'm not even done with the first full day yet. Once I have my files back the rendering might take a while but it will be such a joy to put pictures on these events , especially anything that is related to Anna time. But I also want to slowly explore a path that I've never done before in any of my games, not on the first day, but it will get talked a lot about with Anna. Remember when Sarah mentioned Sabine's family, especially her mother, when she was in the hospital with the MC? I really want to dive into this part of kinks and I hope I can pull it off in a good way. I still want to stick what I can do best, which is wholesome household loving with no drama, but getting a bit kinkier ( like I did a few times in MNF ) is always fun, right?

And I feel like thats it for now, people. Sorry that there is not that much stuff to share, I still hope you are somewhat happy with this update. If anything comes up I'll let you guys know, until then, stay awesome!
