I'd agree with this 100%

I rarely care if a game has "too little" story or "too much" story. The thing that tends to determine for me whether or not a game's story is good is whether or not it makes me want to stab myself in the brain with an icepick.

A game with tons of plot, exposition, and endless dialogue can be fantastic if it's well-written and interesting. It can also be soul-numbingly bad if it feels like the script was written in crayon by a concussed 4th-grader. A game with minimal story can be fun as long as it's relatively consistent and serves its purpose. Lack of story mostly only becomes a problem if the story that is there is mostly disjointed or contradictory, or if the other aspects of the game are also lacking.

If the main character tends to be relatively proactive and not a complete dumbass or victim waiting to happen, that's a huge plus.

Especially with more comedic or light-hearted games, a minor bit of story and exposition is fine. Not even game has to be a sci-fi/fantasy epic or telenovela drama with complex motivations and hidden conspiracies.

Yeah, imagine that... discussing the writing, worldbuilding ect. of a visual NOVEL... i am getting slightly annoyed with this attitude from people who apparently don't care about the Novel aspect and frame discussions about said aspect as the most retarded thing ever...

We had at least one person in here that wants to make a game inspired by my Pig Princess and said person might profit from a discussion about the writing in the game, setting them up to maybe write a better one... imagine that?!? a discussion about the writing in a visual NOVEL!!! leading to other people improving their craft and writing better ones...

you know, you don't have to be a standardless Pleb, just food for thought.

And about this borderline braindead discussion - everything has already been said, the opinion that the writing is shit and why as well as all sorts of counterpoints to it. Nothing new or enlightening has been added for a while now just people throwing "politely" shit at each other over a porn games writing of all things. Its a tad bit ridiculous dontcha think?
