It's a little weird considering there are places in the western world where incest is actually legal. But I guess the internet = America (or America as it is presented on television) when it comes to laws and taboos.

You should look up a map of Europe that shows legality by country, you might be surprised. I'm not saying it's not generally illegal or at the very least frowned upon, all I said was that it's actually legal in no small part of even the western world, so condemning it specifically so much more harshly than various other questionable things is almost weird. It's not as if any of this is even real.

I definitely enjoy the game, it's good see a game centered on being wholesome. noting wrong with other games just there is a bias on harem based games which can be fun but i really love games that focus on one Li.

The whole incest thing in the US is that it's typically viewed through the lens of an adult family relation molesting a child. Beyond that and the fears of inbreeding with close relations are also a concern. Though technically pretty much everywhere in the US it's legaly to marry a second cousin or more distant relation and have children, everyone just clutches their pearls and goes ewwww.
Even with a brother and sister the chances of genetic damage are surprisingly low, though higher than average of course, definitely second cousins would not be at risk. There is higher risk involved in much more accepted circumstances, like older women. I do understand the taboo of course, I just think it's a bit too hyped up when even something as 'simple' as rape is on the table, which everyone agrees is bad. I'm pretty sure the social concerns of insularity are the primary reason such behavior became taboo in the first place, since it decentivizes helping a broader community thrive.

The US incest laws(in the states that have them) are generally only enforced when there is suspicion of coercion or rape. In my personal experience, as long as it's between consenting adults, the law generally just ignores incest.
According to the many specialists my sister and I consulted before getting pregnant, there is no increased chance of birth defects, even between siblings, as long as both parents are not the product of generational incest. Since our parents were not related in any way, our children had exactly the same chance of birth defects as any non-related parents. If our kids decided to procreate together, the chances for birth defects would still only increase by about 0.25%. It takes several generations of inbreeding before statistically significant increases in birth defects begin to appear.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think New Jersey is fine with adult familial members being together. There could be other places that don't have it on any laws, therefore it's not illegal. The incest/molestation thing is pretty concerning though, since a lot of children are diddled by either members of their family, or close family friends. This is why even in adult incestuous relationships it's almost always viewed as a power imbalance/abuse/grooming.
