Hah, yeah not sure if you were implying I was trolling in my comments about reviews, but mine is a general approach as you saw.
I give the benefit of the doubt when I can, but I hammer hard on dev's who act like their game is one thing when the development and tone is definitely going in a completely different direction.
Pushing back when someone has clearly not played a game or just complaining about the genre in general, for things that are clearly listed as that genre I think is deserved. However, as mentioned if a story lists a genre, but also a second or third genre and either that second or third or both aren't really present, those reviews that mention the game focuses only on one of the multiple genre's and hammer the game for that, are completely valid.
Dev's don't get a free pass when their current released version *doesn't* include the genre's listed or act like there is true choice in the game when it's clearly focused in a specific direction without player choice. Dev's have an obligation to be transparent in what true genre's they have in their current releases, what their future tags will be, *and most importantly* the true tone and direction their game will go in.
Too much dev misdirection in an attempt to pull in a wider audience, or add shit way later in the story that doesn't mesh at all with the previous version, deserves all the contempt, animosity and anger they get, regardless if it's their first release, the end of their 5th full game, or anywhere in between.
Defend when dev's are falsely accused I agree, but they don't deserve the protection when they lie to the players which is basically trolling, just like troll posts and reviews don't deserve protection when they lie or misconstrue things about a game either.
If someone defends trolling dev's, regardless what the dev's eventual story focus is but when it's not in their current game, and that dev defender tries to hammer troll players, that just makes that defender a hypocrite. (And I am not saying you are doing this, just in general.)
