But what about all of the game that already exists to be enjoyed?

And while this particular game hasn't been updated in a long time, we'd all agree, there are MANY more on here that go just a few months and people are calling for the same thing. Even when those games get updates every 3-6 months and have for years.
because from the forum rules:

Abandoned: used in the following cases:
  • The developer states that the development has been permanently suspended.
  • After 3 months of inactivity from the developer's public creator/crowdfunding accounts (Patreon, SS, etc), we will resolve special circumstances or scenarios on a case-by-case basis (no creator accounts, creators developing for free, Patreon accounts under review/ban).
  • No game update has been released for an abnormally long period of time (>18 months).
  • Game threads that are marked On-hold for over 6 months with no game update.
so the abandoned tag would not be added just because an update takes more than 3 months. this forum and we users arent that stupid
if people are asking for the abandon tag after just a few months, it could be that the devs had been completely silence in all platforms, patreon, ss, discord, twitter etc. Any responsible devs should be able to say they are still alive every few months.

while the game could have a lot of content, it feels bad when u are invested in the story and then realize it will never be updated. people who are okay with unfinished games would not be stopped by the tag.

its the dev's own problem if the game is tagged abandoned and the tag is only a good thing for us.

Agreed with this - almost like a 3rd intermediate tag is needed, something to denote "this is not actively being worked on, but there's enough content to constitute a full game" - ofc that kind of subjectivity and common sense wont fly in the world forum rules demanding strict unambigious rulings - but it's a thought.
