I get you, but the ending of Game of Thrones was bad because the makers ran out of material. To this day, Martin hasn't finished the book series and the director duo had no talent for writing. You are in no danger of that.
Fair point on the Game of Thrones ending. I'm also not entirely sure how involved Gerard Way was in the final season of Umbrella Academy. I'm going to choose to believe it was done without his consent.
After seeing how so many successful series have endings that are absolutely atrocious (ie - Game of Thrones, Umbrella Academy, etc), I just worry that there's some kind of "writer's blindness" that may drive an author to butcher their own stories because they can't differentiate good from bad anymore.
I don't wanna be a let down, is all. I even tell my testies to specifically let me know what story points and jokes worked and which don't so that I can course-correct.
i always assumed bad endings were created by writers who started writing there stories without the ending already in mind. as for tv series, even when they take a book with an ending and make a show out of it, they write outside the lines so much for that hollywood stamp that the book ending wont even work after a few seasons, as the characters and plot lines are no longer the same. the more seasons the further from the story everything gets, cause they are just pumping out material for money at that point, then either get cancelled or someone says, hey wrap this shit up. 30+ writers 20+ directors over multiple seasons, and the last guy has to somehow make a cohesive ending, nigh impossible.
in short, its your story, you know you characters and your plot arc. even when the story starts writing itself and characters start doing things you never imagined because you realize once fully developed some of their planned actions dont actually fit who they are, as the developer, you are still the only one who understands how it all comes together, even if its different than originally planned, most likely it becomes more organic anyway. as long as you dont force it, when you get your ending and say, yeah thats how it went, then guess what it, thats how it went. and all who disagree are 90% of the time not actually disagreeing with your ending, they just dont like an aspect of it, cause lets be honest, we expect things from real people all the time, and when they do what real people do, let us down or do something unexpected, we dont respond well at first. developed characters begin to behave like real people, their faults in the readers eye are not a mistake on the writers part, but a success.
or something idk. i actually forgot what i was talking about at this point. anyway, looking forward to the end of book 1
That's actually a pretty decent perspective on this that I hadn't considered! There's been a singular ending for Book One since before I even put out the first chapter. Yeah, some things have changed, but the ending has stayed the same (and that'll be very clear once you all see the ending, I think). That gives me a bit more confidence, since clearly (especially with Umbrella Academy) they didn't quite know what they were going to do, and it resulted in plots that made no sense and characters changing dramatically without any motivation to do so.
Totally unrelated question... when I start work on Book Two, should I keep using this thread and just repupose it for the "Mythos Series", or should I make a whole-ass different one? I should probably look into that.
I think it would be better if you started another thread to prevent chaos. It is also customary to talk about books in book series by volume, regardless of whether they are related to each other.

As for the threads, some games which had several seasons have only the one thread, so not sure! Would depend if there's a save at end of chapter one which you can transfer to season two, if so it might be better to keep the one thread unless wanted to deal with "is there a season one?" or similar question for the umpteenth time!
As for story, writing myself, I think bad endings are either due to:
1. too many so called creative people being involved,
2. the money lender deciding to end the show, so you've to rush for an ending,
3. not knowing what you're doing,
4. milking the cow for so long, that everybody want to shoot the poor animal,
5. forcing the story because you don't pay attention to your character and the story flow, or you don't understand which characters and events were primordial to begin with.
So, you should be safe.
Happy to see that you was able to make a werewolf's joke petit scarabée. You did not mention cheese though?! Is it because some of them might be the achille's talon of some mystical creatures? Were the were-creatures killed by a cheese plague, created by some french inquisitors? Mystery, mystery...
