This review is as of chapter 2.
This one was an easy five stars for me. The writing is a definite strong point, humorous without being too cringey or over the top. The characters are likeable and varied and it's clear the creator of the game is having fun making it. You feel like you are in on the jokes. The renders are pretty good as well, not groundbreaking but very decent. I played this as a male mc, and enjoyed the mystery and reveals to the story. So I enjoyed the game, even though none of my kinks are represented.

    Version Reviewed: Mythos Ch2.0.2

The preview renders look kind of mediocre and I almost missed out on a gem.

Looking at the preview images I was rather unimpressed with the game and was considering just letting this one pass by. It was only when I read the description which promised the option to play as a male or a female that I opted to give it a shot and I am glad that I did.

Right off the bat it became clear that the renders provided in the preview art were just a bad choice on the Dev's part. There was so much better artwork contained within the game with a nice selection of varying body types and ethnicities. As I reached the various sex scenes the animations were also surprisingly smoothly done.

Now that I got that part out of the way, let's talk about what really stood out with this game. Billed as a Visual Novel, the game holds to that very well. While you have choices which can influence the exact path of the story, it is just that a story. The Developer does a very solid job of telling the story, keeping the plot engaging even while finding the opportunity to indulge in the adult aspects of the game.

As far as supernatural stories and adult stories go, it actually features one of the more believable protagonists. Yes, the protagonist is special as is appropriate to the genre, but they aren't just automatically God's gift to women. They feature a great many humanizing traits and backstory which is presented in such a way as to really anchor the story nicely.

I have already added this one to my watchlist because I can't wait for the next Chapter to drop. I strongly encourage anyone to check it out.

Have you seen Harry Potter, Doctor Strange, or Fantastic beasts and think man…there’s zero sex in this and whys every magic mofo gotta be British?

Well Mythos changes that with having magic, mystery, sex, AND DIFFERENT ACCENTS BESIDES BRITISH!

QUICK 95 REVIEW- Great game, Harem, No incest, No NTR, Not sandbox, no Engrish, Art is great, music is great, sex early, has a story, don’t need a WT if you have a brain cell.

STORY/WRITING- The game has a solid story with a mystery of murder as the focus and you meet the rest of cast as your trying to figure this shit out and every time you meet person you like ah man your hot but do I trust this chick? Dammit. Writing is not engrish and not a translation so already beats most games on here already.

ART- It doesn’t look like shit its well done, your good, keep reading

CHARACTERS- You get a choice of Male or Female MC which is not common. Even more rare is fact you can just nope out of all sex if wanted to. All the girls you meet all have different personalities and are written so doesn’t feel like their personality has been copy pasted onto a different looking body like a lot of games. There are many hot characters to choose from and see. Everyone is inferior to the cat in this game, and you will agree. Burger girl is 2nd under cat.

OTHER STUFF- Games got achievements like steam and hidden stuff to find which is nice bonus and gives you reason to replay. Theres choices on how you interact with people but none that will lock you out from people unless you’re ACTIVELY trying to say no to somebody sexually, so you don’t need a WT. Music tracks for game actually gives you reason to not play on mute. There are cameos from other devs girls so fact they willing to put their characters in means games not bad.

5/5 for nothing to bitch about

What an amazing game so far.
    Pros.
    - Great renders and characters' design
    - Funny and actually smart dialogues, and making every girl unique in this.
    - The option to play as a female character actually feels amazing. Unlike most other games with such option where just looks like you're playing with a male character but with a different pronoun when it comes down to dialogues, interactions, etc.
    - Harem, even though I'm not really interested in this, but lesbian harem? Do you have any idea how rare is this?
    - The MC is so amazing, I really love her since I play with my fem protag.

    Cons?
Unlike the background renders of the characters, the avatar renders on dialogues are a little weird, but that's all I can think of maybe? negative about it, and even then it's not a big deal.

I'm in love with this game, I love basically everything so far. And ofc Tara is my GF and I love her.

    Kind Nightmares

I'm not one of those who rate games after the first or second release, but here I wanted to break my rule six months ago when I first argued with Tara about her musical tastes.

Do you know this feeling when you meet a person, and it seems as if you have known them all your life? Or you enter into a relationship and literally feel at home. From the first release, from the first lines I read, I felt like it here. And, oddly enough, given that this is an adult visual novel, the sex scenes are secondary to me in it, because the plot, storytelling, characters, atmosphere and humor are great for my taste. Don't get me wrong, the sex scenes are just as good as the renders themselves, but I'm used to forgiving the quality of the picture for the sake of the quality of the story and the characters. So if anyone finds arousal problems in sex scenes, remember that we all have different tastes.

Despite the fact that I'm not a big fan of mystical novels, this story captured me from the very beginning. I haven't seen before, perhaps because I wasn't looking, murder stories so well spiced with good humor and wrapped in an adult visual novel. A new world, in a sense, a carefully thought out lore, which is not served in one gulp so that you choke, but gradually, plunging the player and the main character into the abyss of magicians, vampires and fairies.

I give this game 6 out of 5 because I can and sincerely hope that I will see Nines complete this story as it's intended.

P.S. I also want to express my condolences to all werewolves who apparently don't exist.

Story and storytelling is really great and it still just the first chapter,
Characters are great and unique and good looking and lovable,
Animation and renders are great so far too,
    Humor is on point,
One thing that was weird to me is choices that end giving Love points with other characters (used wt mod) i felt like Love points sould have been given in other choices, like paying for food in the diner, you get Love points when you don't even offer to pay for them even when they are helping you. Just small little thing i could think of, when thinking something bad about the game.
Overall the game is pretty unique with its story and setting, and is poised to become one the best game here.
Good luck to Nine of Swords for future development of the game. (◍•ᴗ•◍)✧*。

An attempt at a review of Mythos: Book One [Ch1.1]

As you can choose to play a male or female MC, and I have only played as the female one I will not be talking about how the game plays as a male MC.

The story is very interesting, it starts out as your ex-girlfriend has just died, but you feel that something is not quite right and slowly as you delve deeper in her life after the breakup, you find out that apparently magic is real and both you and her has some connection to it. So it’s essencealy a detective story with magic, which is as fun as it sounds.

The world the story takes place in(modern Baltimore) feels very real and lived in, it’s almost like I can visit Baltimore and see some of the places from the game when I get there.

The writing is what makes the game for me, the plot is intriguing, the dialogue both witty/funny and serious and really helps bring both the characters and the world to life.

    As for the characters themselves:
Kylie(the MC): a great combo of smart, funny and adorable.
Tara: the childhood friend(no hidden meaning), just as fun and adorable as Kylie
    B: being mysterious and stuff.
Sophia: with a speech pattern that is funny and slightly irritating at the same time.
    Rain: mysterious greenhouse owner.

There are some lweding in the game but the story is the main focus, so the game is kind of a slow burn, so if that’s not your thing then this probably isn’t a game for you. But if you want to solve a murder in a magical fantasy version of Baltimore, whit some lweds and humor, I highly recommend this excellent game.

    Great game.
You can choose if you play a male or a female character.
As a girl, it's a pure lesbian route. At least so far, but the MC is a 100% lesbian, so I don't think there will be any M/F contents.
I'm only interested by the female MC (Kylie) and the lesbian route (female protagonist and lesbian were the 2 tags that caught my attention for Mythos). So I'm only speak for the version of the game with the female MC.

    The story is good.
It's takes place in modern Baltimore (2020).
It's start as a death investigation. Your ex-girlfriend was found dead, and you feel something is wrong.
But slowly, you are drag into fantasy as you find out there is a magic world hidden in our own world. And that the death of your ex may be connected with that.

The writing is excellent. Teri (the dev, who leaves there) include some elements like names of places, Baltimore accent, etc, that make the whole thing lively and realistic. There are even some tribute for other adult games.
The choices you make have some impacts in the rest of the story.
The MC isn't a brainless cumslut. And she as a good sens of humor.
The girls you meet are sexy and interesting, each with her own personality.
There are some sex, but it's not the main focus. So if you only seek for lewd actions, it's not a game for you. But if you want to solve a mysterious murder, discover a fantasy world, with some adult contents, and some humor, I can only recommend you to play it.

    FunFuntomes

I'll start with then negative.... the choice between the two main protagonists , Kyle and Kylie... while they are the same person, since the story was writtine in a way that both work, Kylie is super cute that it's obvious while she'd be popular with the ladies, and honestly she should be a love interest, Kyle on the other hand looks a bit too scrawny. and that's all the negatives I could find.... current score 4/5
    now to the good part.
we are thrown into a living Baltimore where magic, fae and secret agents are your everyday bread, MC's ex died and something is not right; yes you heard that right! it's a murder mystery with some flirting and lewding along the way, but that's only if you are down for that, since it's possible to not partake in any of the lewd... player agency rulez!!!!
    current score 5/5
Along the journey we'll meet a cast of lovely characters with their own personalities, quirks, motives, past, and goals...( Disclaimer : I'm not saying Tara is the best, but she is. she'll capture your heart with her punctual personality, charming butchery of k-pop songs and a butt to kill for) and among them hides the killer.
The branching is so vast that seeing everything in one playthrough is near impossible, and if we add to that the fact choices have reality altering consequences (for example if K-cup's hands smell of tuna,a certain pussy will be friendlier) and sprinkle it with some achievement hunting, and you got a game that offers you thrice the fun for your buck with it's repleyability. Luckily we have lorebook-chan to help us keep track of who's who and what's MC's relationship status with that person...

    current score 9.99/5

I'm not sure if I'm qualified to talk about the sex scenes, since I only want Tara, and my MC had sex only with her, but the sex scenes are done skillfully (for both Kyle and Kylie) havin the right amount of ambience, intimacy and raw passion... if only there was VR support that allowed th player to feel Tara's butt...

if you hadn't played Mythos, have you even lived your life ?

Final score: THIS GAME IS SO FUCKIN GOOD THAT IT GOES BEYOND ANY RATING SCORE

A game that takes a different tack than the majority of stuff on here. Mystery, the choice of player gender, excellent renders. A harem isn't exactly innovative but is nonetheless good to have, and so far you don't HAVE to hook up with anyone. A lesbian game is always going to peak my interest and a quality put together lesbian game is very welcome indeed.

Spend some time clicking around and paying attention, the achievements can be pretty tough to get, but the bonus renders are a treat.

Liked, jumped on the patreon, looking forward to more.

First It caught my attention cause of that one dark skin character, it's very unusual to see one here for whatever reason that is and the lesbian tag was a bonus for me. i downloaded the game, and the moment i opened the game it sucked me in, i usually download a lot of game from here but most of the time the game is not-fun or just sex with absurd and stupid story, but this one felt different. it has very intriguing story with characters that seems human. The story feels unique and so does the characters, every character has their own personality and traits and it really reflects as the story progresses. Graphic-wise it's decent but there's sure some room for improvements, all the characters look beautiful though. it's still too early to call it anything but i recommend this to anyone interested in a good story game that's just not all porn and is unique.

Oh damn, I haven't really laughed at a game for quite some time now.
Having a selectable male/female MC is a great plus on this novel.
So far, I've never ever read a fantasy AVN before and to my surprise, I found this one very humorous not like a lot of fantasy/magic movies I've watched before.

I will watch this novel's development with great interest.

Also, congrats on your first release!

Wow, this game is so impressive.

The writing is fantastic. Dialogue and characters are all very interesting and the plot is deep and mysterious and I'm looking forward to how it will unfold.

But what really knocks this game out of the park for me is the presentation. Teri does things with the code that as a dev, I'm SO jealous of. The transitions between scenes, the sound effects, the music, the animations - they're all so damn good and really hook you into the game and keep every minute of play time fun.

I love this game. and I'm looking forward to the next chapter. If you haven't played it, give it a try - it is definitely worth your time.

Mythos is one of strongest debuts I've seen.
It certainly is unique, and it certainly puts novel back into VNs. World-building, lore, you can see how much love, thought and work were put into the game.

I won't dissect it into writing/visuals/production etc., because I believe that a game should just be interesting, and Mythos is.
There are a lot of nuances to the game, if you look for a world to lost yourself in for an evening - this game will be a great choice. It's a very enjoyable experience immersion-wise, as a "fap material" - not so much, but that is a matter of taste.

This is the kind of work that should absolutely be cherished, and hopefully nurtured into a whole-ass completed game. Or two.

Give it a go, support the developer at least with a like/review, come hang out on a comfy discord, and have a good day ;)

Finally got around to playing this, and I'm stunned I waited as long as I did. This is excellent! I love the characters, especially Tara and Rain. I love the look of the game. The dialogue is excellent, the humor is well-done, and the pacing is great.

The world-building involved is also worthy of praise. You can tell that the dev has paid close attention to the rules and history she's established for the setting, and I have a lot of appreciation for that. I also really love the hidden nods to other games scattered throughout. It makes looking at the renders that much more fun when you have hidden Easter eggs to find.

Could not recommend this more! Give it a try, it's absolutely worth it.

Also, Tara has an amazing ass.

Just finished the first Chapter. I must say it's already one of my favorite games so far. Renders are great, the characters all have there own unique personality, and the storyline/humor is top notch. Can't wait for future updates.

I'll start with the negatives... the renders... they are not flashy as other top tier games, however equally enjoyable.
and this is all the bad I can say about Mythos.

    and now with the pros...
This game feels like a labor of love, plenty of customised things like menus, lorebook (the handy book conteining informations about charanter, location, and places that are relevant to the story, that gets updated whenever someting changes) .
the love interests, if you chose to pursue them have their own distinct personalities and quirks . if you decide to not pursue romantic relationships with them, they still play a role in the story.
the story is a slow descent into a magical world, masterfully crafted to set just the right pace. how fast will depend on the questions MC will ask
The comedy is also nicely done

Now this is how a new dev should launch!

A good game, a great story, great art, and an awesome lack of engrish!

Other new devs should take note and aim for this level of quality. Can't wait to see what happens next!

Very nice start. The girls are attractive and also quite different looking from a lot of the standard DAZ stuff which is nice. The animations are good too. Narratively there seems to be an interesting story here and mysteries to solve not only about the ex-girlfriend but the girls we meet. The writing is really good in parts, particularly in the interaction between Tara and the MC; but also a bit uneven when the writer tries to be a bit too self-reflexive. Over all a really good start and worth a play and to be looked out for in the future.

Mythos has a strong start. There is intrigue, memorable character introductions, and 2* sex scenes with animations (4 if you play both gender versions of MC) in this first build. The transitions and visual effects are an especially nice touch that really paint a picture of the quality of work that went into making this VN.

There are many who will say “Don’t rate on potential!” But if everyone did that, then adult VN’s wouldn’t be as popular as they are now. I suggest you play Mythos and enjoy it for the sex, mystery, and fun that it is.

I know, I’m listed in the credits and therefore horribly biased. I’m Commander Alboe, and this is my favorite game on the Citadel forum.
