Make a serious post for once.
This is an unacceptable outrage!

I don't think many people realise just how long animations take to put together. They seem to think it's like a scene and can be thrown together in a few minutes.
The other thing most people don't really seem to get is that bad animations can be worse than no animations at all. If they're janky, awkward, or wind up causing stuff to lag, you're pretty much better off not having them at all and just sticking to still images.

I don't think I've ever played a game on this site where I went "Man, this game is so much better because these scenes are animated!", but I've definitely had moments where bad animation in games have annoyed me.

I'd definitely rather see a game finished with pictures and story and choices and everything, and then if the dev feels like it absolutely needs animation they can always go back later and tweak things.

This I agree with 110%.

I didn't finish Dreams of Desire until the remaster when the dev redid all his utterly shit animations.

Reason being, the first time I played it not long after it came out had animations that looked like 2 squids fucking in an 80's strobe light disco. So janky and messy I couldn't watch them. They completely ruined the game for me.

It's the same every time I see those horrible 2 or 3 frame animations. I just turn it off and delete. If the dev is going to add shit animations then they are wasting my time. I'm certainly not going to give any money to someone half arsing it.

I don't need Philly levels of animation but if they are going to do it they can at least do it properly.

I'll take still scenes over shitty stop frame animations any day and i'll certainly take still scenes if it means we get story content quicker.

I've said this on multiple threads now, animations are more trouble than their worth. They take too long to make, they don't really add much value, and most people can't make decent animations to begin with (dunno about this one, been a while since I played). All animations really do is beef out the file size and prolong development.

Furthermore, I'd much rather read dirty talk than watch a 2 second gif.

Yep, this so much! Having still images with writing to support is is good, having smooth and realistic animation is good and good animation with good writing is excellent. Having 2-3 frame "animations" with no smutty writing is just the worst of both worlds.

I finished one game with this just because the story was interesting but it didn't exactly fulfill it's purpose why I usually play games from the site. Usually that's grounds for dropping the game.

So seems like the consensus is I shouldn't bother with animations, which I'm fine with! Hopefully the ones that exist in the game right now aren't the jarring "make me hate this game" sort! I know I'm not the best, but I tried.

I wonder if I should remove the "animated" tag, if I'm not doing any animations going forward. True, there are still animations in the game, but it seems kinda misleading to have that as a "selling point" if there won't be any more going forward.

I think you should keep the animated tag, but just dump a quick disclaimer into the dev note for plausible deniability.

Furthermore, just a heads up, while everyone here commenting are fans, gonna be a decent number of people popping in saying "where animation?". Been seeing it a lot lately in non animated VNs, even those that never had animation in the first place.

Animations are great, if done well. Done poorly they're a distraction. Worrying about animations is a distraction from working on the story. Since I'm in the EARLY stages of developing, I've found animation is a hurdle I'm unwilling to learn for a while. If someone needs animation for a story driven game where sex is a secondary perk, then they just need to go watch hentai porn videos. My plan, and advice for what it's worth, is to spend you effort on the plot, renders and flow of the game then when it's "finished" go back and animate scenes you feel need it or would benefit from it.

I had a boss once who used to say "free advice is worth every penny you paid for it", so take my advice at that valuation :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:

Your animations are good, the only reason I say they aren't needed is they seem to take time away from the important stuff. If updates are going to go smoother without them then without them it should be.

When all is said and done you can always add animated scenes once everything is finished and no longer eating up time that could be put into the game.

Happy birthday, hun.

Hope your hangover isn't too severe.
It isn't... because I don't drink... :WeSmart:

the girl in the banner made me think of Blythe Danner when she was young (Gwenneth Paltrow's mom for you young folk)
View attachment 2020508

This is the best pic I could find of her at that age, she quite often wore her hair down like in the banner
I didn't know Blythe Danner was Gwyneth Paltrow's mom!!! Cool!

That's not who's supposed to be in the picture, obviously — but maybe she was a subconscious influence, though!
