v0.5 Reviewed
Four stars for quality execution and a rather unique approach to telling the story.
The characters (there are only three and only two are ever visualized completely) are done competently, though neither really wins any awards for uniqueness or artistic excellence.
The writing is quite solid, with a unique take on what amounts to a "stranded on a desert island" scenario.
This is truly a challenge to rate because on one hand, you have a clearly superior effort in terms of writing, amount of content for a first release, and production values, and on the other it manages to combine the worst elements of a kinetic novel with the repetitiveness of a sandbox.
As others have noted, there is (so far) no way to influence the outcome of the game. The MC is relegated to a hapless bystander as his girlfriend is seduced away from him both chemically and through devious gaslighting.
The girlfriend proves convincingly challenging to woo as the antagonist does everything he can to minimize your role in her life and expand his...Pun intended.
The sound effects are inconsistent and in my case, the hum of the spacecraft popped in so jarringly at one point, my dogs began barking hysterically.
I'm not quite sure what was missing for me here, but if I were to take a wild swing at it, I would say it's the absolute lack of ability for the MC to control anything around him. For example, NTR being unavoidable is fine, but giving the MC agency to decide whether or not it was netorase, becomes a sharing arrangement, or a mission to save his relationship, even if it's doomed to fail would have provided a better avenue for player investment, in my opinion.
All of that aside, for a first effort, this is leaps and bounds ahead of most other new stuff. I appreciated the dev's commitment to not releasing until he had enough content to evaluate, and I hope his craft only improves with time.
If you like sci-fi settings and good overall production values, this will scratch some itches while leaving others wanting.
