I agree with the comment above about starting a new but similar game if the dev can't be reached. Promote it here and I will be sure to check it out.

Just to be safe, make it a new game with new characters and lift the concept. Make it your own. That way, you don't need to ask permission or worry about whether the dev chooses to emerge someday.

To be honest, this is a pirate forum, should be no surprise people take posession of other's work especially when abandoned. And if you make new characters and all that, it defeats the point of continuing this game.

Look what happened to the True Bond game. There was no update for years and Dev disappeared, then came back again. You can't just take someone else's work. This game is brutal and has a unique story, but if the original dev has no intention of continuing it, then let it stay as it is.
The concern would be around whatever payment service the other dev would use, maybe there's some form of copyright takedown for original assets or other hassles the original dev could suddenly show up and cause. These sorts of things are best cleared up before committing any effort to a project.

I agree that ideally you would clear those things since the beginning, and also that it is a very valid choice to let the game stay as it is. I don't disagree on any of that.
The point is that if someone wants to go along and do a project like continuing the game and so on, and they can't get a hold of the original dev to see if they allow it... well, then it's kinda pointless to expect them not to do it as they like. I mean, copyright and all those things are continuously infringed in the forum, like it distributes patreon-exclusive content and all those other things. So if they want to continue the work, then it should be a continue, restarting the game with everything different is no continuation at all, just a different game with some similar ideas (and ideas are commonly used in games, not like this one has anything completely exclusive or original).

If u redo with same art style I would def subscribe. For me it was story and art in this game.
I’ve played ur game, and thought ch1 was good, maybe would change text color, but liked everything else.
As a fan of FUNS I would suggest changing description of name. A lot of people think it’s a copy, however, after playing it, it def isnt

I think he's adapting it very well; there are things to polish, but he's giving it that style that people liked.
Please do the current style if you are going to continue it.
