No, you always had to reclaim Laura. Not doing it at the start creates the kind of imbalance that impacts the relationship so much that I would have had to write another story for it, or have it make no sense.

This is not the "full cuck" kind of game, as this kind of relationship is too specific to have it in a game that also has to show other kind of relationships.

It's about the illusion of choice. Like you said earlier, there are things that need to happen in order to make the game work.
You could give the MC the option to choose between two things and have Laura come up with the other later on: "Funny, I was thinking about the same thing earlier but xxx sounded more interesting to me." Additionally you could give him the option to be silent about choices for a quite No.
Like I said, this update felt more like a checklist than two lovebirds having fun with each other. Some ridiculous bullet points in between or random events to make the other laugh would have certainly helped make it more interesting. BUUUUT I'm just nitpicking.

One day before 0.22 was shared for everyone, because of a problem with my pc I lost my saves. I did play the whole game again. It took me a month, then I started 0.22 and finished it rn and I have to say that totally worth it! 0.22 is probably my favourite update. I'm glad to see that all the critiques I said in my previous feedback totally changed as I would have like to! Probably (for sure) it's not related to my feedback, but anyway it mean that the game did something I was hoping for. I'm glad that 0.23 is already out now that I finished 0.22 because I can't wait for it. When will it be available for everyone?
