Dev explained that's due to fact the chapter has "nothing to skip to" yet. So it's not you. It's the dev. Apparently it was too hard to make one line of text at the end of the chapter to skip to, and it was easier to confuse and force you to play it instead.

Yes, I have the same problem when using the uncompressed version. If you have access to the compressed version, install that one instead. It works better on older phones, and the lesser image quality isn't that big of a deal, at least not for me.

I wondered if I had clicked on the right answer. If the dev were to post an update on his patreon tomorrow and somebody were to (as usual) leak it here within the first hour, you'd have to wait for a week to play it for free without applying a crack.

Maybe that's not what they're talking about, as Laura has also been sleeping with Ashley's ex for a while, now (ie Nathan).
