As disappointing as this game is I do think it's still the best of its genre. Most of the others are autistic tranny simulators- sorry, I mean "very detailed life-as-a-woman simulators".

In those ones you have to constantly shave your legs, shower & eat every few hours, use tampons, check your make-up, comb your hair, take your vitamins, go to the bathroom every half hour, manage your weight, occasionally modify your clothes because you gained too much weight, manually move to wherever you want to go while having to keep in mind the schedule of places and NPCs, and all the while also grind stats... all for either very little content or fairly mediocre content.

Some of these games feel like they're made more for Jonathan Yaniv than for players who just want a decent porn game.

I share this sentiment. Unfortunately, a lot of games like this have a lot of 'gender-bend' content for some reason. I'm surprised that there still aren't any games out there that 'borrows' New life's mechanics and features.

So the defense is "I did such a bad job setting up my project, I need more money to get things done" ?
I think SO only will spend XYZ time per month making game content, and if loads of people want to donate that much then it is their choice. The upshot being the game is not going anywhere fast, suspect SO's enthusiasm dropped, but support didn't. Only way to tell is if support starting dropping and SO doubled content. The flip side is that SO might be content for a few hundred dollars per month in exchange for minor updates (5-10 hours per month).

I looked at writing a scene for the game and after reading the comprehensive writing guide I couldn't face it. Even if I was paid good money I would think it over. I think due to the sheer amount of variables writing text for all the different attributes is soul destroying. Takes a certain type.

We have Female Agent that borrows some elements (it was inspired by new life, according to the dev himself). But they also hit a wall and people are disappointed with their updates (or lack of them)

My guess is like Dracis3D said, it's a type of game that can quickly get too complex to develop due to so many variables for micro diferences, so not many are willing to try or do it seriously. Heck, I think this game is eventually going to get dropped, people call the dev lazy but I'm more willing to believe that the game got too complex to develop and/or he isn't motivated.

I have an idea in mind to develop something kind of like New Life but from the perspective of a straight man (when I have some free time), but I'll need plan how I'm going to organize the structure of the game before I start. E.g. How many details of the PC and NPC I'm willing to give, but also keep them simple enough so that when I write the scenes they can naturally be fetched or ignored.

Has anyone found a way to transition into a sex scene from the new events. Someone asked in the discord but it didn't seem like they got a reply.

Fixing computer - I don't know. Getting coffee spilled on clothes - cry (can't be ambitious), then the boss must offer his help, then you must be either be flirty or you can't have a bra.

Managed to get the crying one - I've searched through the decompiled jar file and realised you can theoretically rip the rivals blouse - then trap them in a room and get the boss to go tell her off for not having the correct uniform, and then eavesdrop. Tried to proc that for a bit and couldn't.

I'm kind of in the middle of developing my own game loosely inspired by Newlife. I do think that this game has a ton of potential, and it's got quite a bit of content, though nowhere near as much as it should have given the 5+ years of dev. I think it's the mixture of both SO's lack of motivation and the technical debt of the code.

With that being said, since my game will likely target the same sort of people who play Newlife, what do you guys think are things that SO does well with Newlife, and what are perhaps things you think are just redundant?

For me personally, I think the customizable NPC system and high-level schedule that leaves a lot to imagination are some of the game's strongest points and are things I'd definitely try to implement in my own way for my game. On the other hand, I really could care less for the clothing system, since after replaying the game for x times (and this is for probably every other game out there), I really stop caring about what my character wears as long as it triggers things that it's supposed to trigger. Any thoughts?

Customization and simplification of a day. Having to brush teeth or wash hands is too much, of course the PC is going to do that unless they're a complete incel neckbeard.

From the position of someone who actually has a clothed sex fetish, I do think the clothing system is too much. There's really no reason why there should be 20 different kinds of bras in a non-visual game. Especially when they all do effectively the exact same thing.

Having just a handful of clothing for each stat in different slots is fine. Like plain bra, sports bra, insert-sexy-lingerie-thing-here for bras. Pants, shorts, pleated skirt, short-shorts, mini-skirt for legwear. Instead of like 4 different kinds of Chinos. You could probably get away with 2-3 options for every slot except the legwear.

Also, please make more things 1-item full outfits like the babydolls/nighties/pajamas. Such as business suits. I've played this game for 2 years and I'm 100% convinced its completely impossible to get both top and bottom business attire that match both style of wear and color unless you want black/grey. There's no reason for the business suit parts to even be sold separately.

I'd rather see more descriptions/customization involving character bodies like height/hair than the current clothing system, but only to the degree I described my preferred height/hair customization in a previous post. Any more than that would become too much.

Similarly, there's even less reason for the list of like 40 different meals you can eat at restaurants/make at home.

The NPC and AI customization are sadly the most intensive parts of this sort of game to develop. However, they really are why I'm here. I love fucking with different kinds of AI through various trait combinations and watching the relationships that play out.

The only H-game that really lets me do that is Artificial Academy 2. As well as the fanmade expansion, Artificial Academy Unlimited. You could play AA2/AAU like it was The Sims. Ai Shoujo was a disappointing return to that type of game for Illusion.

For what it is worth I agree with FrogFrozen the whole clothing system should be simplified. I do think it makes a difference though and allows three gameplay situations; shy, slutty or a 'normal' character doing something 'brave'. It allows progressive corruption, say seduce the boss, or get harassed by boss (wants you to wear slutty outfits etc).

Tested this, you need bitchy to rip clothes + a lot of strength. I tested with max and it worked.

I decided to try to recreate this game on a more open basis, since the original is way too obfuscated to be moddable. My goal is not to recreate the game 1:1, but to provide a mostly identical experience with many more ways to customize the game and add new content than Newlife will ever have. I'm curious if anyone here is even interested in this sort of thing as I'm not going to be able to provide new content myself (I'm not much of a writer).

I should mention that I might drop the whole thing. It's often hard for me to keep focus on big projects. People here like to complain about the lack of work SO is willing to do for the game (and I mostly agree), but it turns out that recreating even just this anal sex scene is a ton of work.

So, any thoughts?
