Does anyone have access to his post 'A pause' he did on wednesday ? Genuinely curious about what he's saying
You don't need to know the specifics of that post, the title says it all - after years of releasing no content at all and milking his patrons he's finally abandoning the game.

I've got about 7 custom npcs, but whenever I start a new game, only 3 or fewer ever show for me to play with. I've tried increasing maximum number of npcs. What am I doing wrong?
Maybe you did something wrong and they are tagged as INVALID

I remember, years ago, the creator said that they would release the source code for this game at some point. Am I remembering wrong, or did they go back and decide not to do that?

I don't think he has, and people who've looked at the files we get say that it's a mess of spaghetti code and poor programming practices / decisions. (Though I personally also have used really bad coding practices myself, but I also have never sold anything I've coded.)

hey cut the guy some slack ok? he's been hard at work since 2014 let him take some well-deserved rest
I seriously hope you are being sarcastic. Guy is getting paid to deliver frequent updates to a text based game. And yet almost all content added recently was prepared by the community. It seems that he is on holiday at least 3 weeks a month for the last two years.

Just release the source code and let modders make the game what it should've been 3 years ago, jesus christ....

SO is by far the laziest dev I've seen so far. One update per month, typically from suggestions by his Discord, "fixes" a.k.a changing things based from suggestions from those same Discord people as well as typos cause SO can't be bothered to use spellcheck in that whole month, and generally milking a scenario for as long as possible. Y'all remember that one update about the wedding dress? Laughable that it was the highlight of the update. I don't recall a release where there were two notable scenes that weren't buggy or placeholders.

What a joke. I should've learned to do text games. I would've made good money, wrote actual content people want (blackmail, noncon, corruption, etc.) and have more content in the game than what SO wrote in the last 4 fucking years. I'd love to tell him all of this but he deletes comments on his blogspot and his Discord white knights praise him like he's a God. To them he has no flaws and if someone pointed it out they always respond with some bullshit HR reply, "oh this will come in the next updates" or "why don't you write that scene yourself then". Fuck those guys.

What a joke. Great game if it was said to be version 0.09 or something. Played tons of it, love the idea and some of the scenes/execution but glad to see it dwindling. This guy doesn't deserve all his patreon money tbh.
Aka typical armchair developer comment. Guess you would also have been the world best soccer player - if you started to learn to play soccer just a little bit earlier in life...

From the looks of it then he got Patreon supporters that believe in him and as long he can keep them satisfied then I guess he will continue to do whatever he does. At his own time and speed. I wonder why anyone would actually spend time developing anything if this is what they can look forward to.

You're right about everything but one issue. This whole rant would sound way better had it started with "Hey, guys, I spent the last couple months learning how to code and came up with a game much like this one, here's a link, hope u like it and feel free to give me any feedback"
You say you'd do it better? Do it, then.

So, I'm not going to claim that I could code any kind of game, but I did support SO a long while back, and can compare the recent progress to early progress.

Early on there was something like a 2 month update cycle, with bug fixes shortly after release. There was normally one month with a large update, like the entirety of the standing sex scene or the dance class and dancing scene. The next moth would be a minor event like the find a phone scene, minor clothing changes and other tweaks.

Recently every month, if there was an update, has basically been 1-2 scenes written by fans and MAYBE a new thing SO did other than bug fixes, most often along the lines of the small updates from early in the development. Big updates have had massive bugs and / or been spread over multiple months (the cooking class scene in particular). Bug fixes are often left for the next month, rather than a within the week bug fix.

If the development by the same guy has massively changed / slowed from their early work, then anyone has the right to call them on it. Now, the current patreons can continue to support him for however long they think it's worth it (or until they remember they're still patreons if they forgot).

And honestly, there's a lot of issues with life sim porn games and in terms of the relative annoyances / needless complexities Newlife is one of the best that I know of in terms of being a game but one of the worst I've seen in terms of the paid developer's progress (again, comparing against himself).

Why would he spend money on that? He's in it to MAKE money.
A lot of people stopped donating because of SO's bullshit "content" updates and I don't really see too many of them coming back, even if he did somehow decide to stop advertising fixed typos as major changes ... and the current donators are apparently people with less than 0 expectations, so he doesn't even have to do anything to keep the money flowing. Why would he cut into his own profits then? The idea is to keep the milking going for as long as possible, not to deliver the product.

He has 870 followers at this time of writing, even if all 870 only pledge $5 it still adds up to $4,350 which isn't accounting for how many pledge more. With many more worthy projects around I was always intrigued.
He released his game in 2014 and claimed that it would be a 3 to 5 year long project, so this is the last year/6 months until it should be (((near))) finished.
There was a list of content that was posted onto his blog that patrons could vote for:
It can still be used as a list of content that never happened and that was 2016. So much of the game even seems to remain unfinished.
