Absolutely.

I work for a project that was clearly not designed to last this long given the sheer amount of poor practices in the code. Implementing quality in a project is long and tedious but you can really see its benefits in the long run. Even in only a year, the difference is clearly visible.
And the worst part is when you understand this midway : because there is already too much content so that you cannot restart from scratch, but when you try to upgrade something you are slowed by the lack of quality in the rest of the project...

Good luck to the dev, and I hope he sees the positive posts between the impatient ones (be it there or on Patreon).
For some reason it felt like you were making an attack on quickbooks

why do you guys pay too much attention on this dev? bc his game or his delay for whatever reasons ?

if first, the game is stil one of the best AI game on this forum, you can't reject that fact

if second, there is no developer (at least 1 year dev) doesnt know how to use version control, and radio silence for a long time that mean:
- he burned out
- he dont have time
- he still noob in programing
- he is on vacation
- he is milking patreon
- he tires on this fking forum bc toxic users
- he converts free users in this forum to paid users on patreon then he doesnt need to pay attention any more
- he is in war zone
- he change his jobs/location
- the electricity problems

what the f how many reasons you can rise and defend for ?

what about my feeling ? (in case anyone ask):
- this game is good
- this dev is suck
- this game's paid monthly users is dump
- this game's free users is... omg

if you want him to release more, stop pay him, if he want more money, then he should release, bc he making this game for money, not for passion or anything else, without money, he has to work more, that my advise

Well, I only see that some of us are becoming frustrated in waiting for the next update, and I get that it is because they absolutly like this game.

You see, saying that you like this game is the same as saying you like eating apples... But of course, apples aren't the only fruit we can eat, there are other fruits, other types of food.

What I'm saying is, I can play other games or do other stuff while the new update is still pending. Gonna do other things while waiting for this apple tree to produce new ripe ones for eating.

I do think one of the main reasons for the constant delays is the dev eagerness to introduce more and more different features into the game which makes it more complex and, whereas they are cool, it's public would be more than happy with what it's already there.

For example the videos in comic format he introduced, I appreciated them and liked them, however if that keeps nosy from releasing more often and to push the story further, I would prefer no more of those.

THe comics are absolutly unneeded feature that like you say makes the game needlessly complex.

note also that, as others have pointed out in the past, having branching paths really blows up development time. the writing alone adds a couple of thousand words per branch as the game goes on.

this is why many other devs just have
  • a kinetic novel, or
  • a game with one path and with choices that only has dialogue or image varieties, or
  • a game with choices on a linear path for 90% of the game and the final 10% is where the branching happens based on the choices made.
unless one is already a seasoned "choose your own adventure" book author with a tyler perry level work ethic, an indie writer will find a branching path game on a strict deadline to be very formidable.

seasoned game developer also knows the best way to develop branching story game-development-wise is to finish one route and then iterate to the others. While this is bad scenario-development-wise as you will definitely feel 'it could've been better if I did the previous route this way' and there will always be thoughts like this and the desire to redo, I know, as I'm a writer myself, this will help developers focus in the long run. Treat it like a software development lifecycle.
