The quality of their games declining so hard since Onboro left. For a year, maybe only one or two games that have good sales, even avid fans start stop supporting them after too many slops. I already suspicious about the studio since they cancel their project after make they polling of Marina spinoff on fantia.
Well atleast they leave with a legacy, make NTS genre popular.

It's pretty sad to see them go considering their history in the scene, but I agree, the quality of their games was nothing to write home about lately. Loved their Marina series.

.One of the last games I tried to play for the sake of being something more original than their usual slop of a friend/brother fucking your GF/wife cause MC has a cuck fetish, can't conceive of properly fuck her himself, was dad NTR game, I don't even remember what the name is now (beware of spoilers ahead).
So it went like this: MC and FMC are married, but FMC comes from a much more powerful family so the family isn't happy; FMC wants to conceive to cement the marriage, MC works a lot for her family's company and is constantly tired or whatever and can't knock his wife up as you can guess.
They travel at some point to MC's sleazy family - and lo and behold. MC during the night gets up to shit his bowels out for the reason of his dad giving him some pill during the dinner. Dad's been patiently waiting in ambush nearby for what seemed to be some hours and directly propositons FMC - to fuck and impregnate her, after meeting her for the first time during this trip if my memory serves me. What could FMC possibly say? While her husband is shitting somewhere nearby and can return any minute, only God knows when exactly? Of course it's a 'yes'. And of course she starts right away with sucking her father-in-law's dick first, it's what you do when you want to get pregnant, as everybody's well aware of, isn't it?
It was so cringy and detached from anything resembling reality, that at this point I've had my fill of AS.
P.S. I quickly CTRLed the game forward so if anyone's interested she then becomes a fucktoy for MC's brother too and some of bro/dad's friends for the brilliant logic of conceiving faster by getting more cum into her womb, and in another ending she keeps cheating as she gets into it with some old friend or BF of hers, if I got it right.

Problem is there haven't been games like that or Mayumi or their very first Hoka no Otoko no Seieki de Harande mo Ii Desu ka serie of games for a dozen of years or so. So:
1) It's bad for business to produce slop for a dozen years, result is only natural. Even if your monthly slop was fairly inexpensive.
2) What is there to be sad about? As far as I understand apart from some people liking occasional game or two produced in the last decade or so, their generally acclaimed games were created in their first years, some 3 or 5. If they haven't been creating gems for a decade now, it's not likely they would suddenly start. Different people, perhaps different and in any case questionnable business model (monthly inexpensive slop). And the old acclaimed games will stay around, right?
Demise of elf is tremendously more sad story. Along with some other devs which created much better and expensive games, without monthly scheduled releases, and which seemingly just couldn't generate enough profit to stay afloat.

Nobody will know why Atelier Sakura did not capitalise on their popular and most best selling series. Marina series, Mayumi series, Gyaru series and the pregnancy series are well regarded, as well as more of their older series.
If there is one connecting reason, it is that they were all written by 1 guy who was the face of Atelier Sakura old eroge. When he left, 3 writers took his place. Zuka is good but the other 2 should not be allowed near a writing programme without it short circuiting in their faces.
Probably company loyalty to old employee meant they did not replace the writer while continuing the series. But then again, how could any of the other guys have written Marina when they cannot even write generic slop?

Ngl I dropped it bc I felt like the MC was kinda an unlikable douchebag. Does his bond with the girls actually start to feel a bit more emotional at some point?
I really disliked the MC but the creator himself realized this issue and made him more bearable as time went on. I wouldn't say it's fixed but it doesn't feel as cringy as it used to. The mechanics of gameplay also evolve as time goes on and introduce a lot of fun ideas.

My problem with new Atelier Sakura releases was just that they always felt a need to find some new angle on NTR or NTS to avoid treading old ground. But it just meant games that hit none of the beats that make them good. It's really not a complex genre, you can do the same themes again and again as long as you write them well.
