My problem with new Atelier Sakura releases was just that they always felt a need to find some new angle on NTR or NTS to avoid treading old ground. But it just meant games that hit none of the beats that make them good. It's really not a complex genre, you can do the same themes again and again as long as you write them well.Nobody will know why Atelier Sakura did not capitalise on their popular and most best selling series. Marina series, Mayumi series, Gyaru series and the pregnancy series are well regarded, as well as more of their older series.
If there is one connecting reason, it is that they were all written by 1 guy who was the face of Atelier Sakura old eroge. When he left, 3 writers took his place. Zuka is good but the other 2 should not be allowed near a writing programme without it short circuiting in their faces.
Probably company loyalty to old employee meant they did not replace the writer while continuing the series. But then again, how could any of the other guys have written Marina when they cannot even write generic slop?
