My main gripe with BSS labeling is that it's too prescriptive and not indicative of how NTR is actually used.

Scars of Summer too can't be NTR since the FMC and MC never get together in any of the "bad ends."

I would just follow what JAV does. If it makes you jealous or upset, it’s NTR.
If a potential lover gets stolen down the road, it’s NTR.
This principle is also how oneesan/okaasan NTR works function.

This also means a chunk of Fuetakishi’s works isn’t NTR anymore because the MC isn’t in an official relationship with his oneesans when the bad guy started "taking them."

I dislike BSS as a term. It’s not used anywhere—not on DLsite, not on FANZA. They just use cuckoldry (NTR).

Again, it's been a while since I've played it) - if there's no declaration of love from the male protag, then if the female antagonist pursues someone else it's just BSS. If the male protag confesses and starts any kind of relationship but the female antagonist ends up with someone else, it's NTR.

Ultimately though these are just my viewpoints and as I've stated, people will view NTR how they want to view it and unfortunately we just have to suffer through people's own opinions on what kind of NTR is what.

By the BSS definition, Scars of Summer wouldn’t be considered NTR despite being a top ten NTR JRPG on DLsite.

In all, BSS is actually a subgenre of NTR. But it's also rare and too technical.
All the JAV studios simply use NTR even if the MC/FMC aren’t romantically involved.
Because reciprocal feelings aren’t required for NTR to happen.

If you scroll down VNDB, you can see many NTR works where MC/FMC aren't romantically involved.
I do notice a trend where EN NTR protags are in an official relationship with FMC, but this isn’t always the case in JP NTR works.

Yea NTR is used as an umbrella term. Netori would be NTI but nobody really uses it. And I would agree BSS is a subset of NTR.

Yea, I think a lot of new NTR devs make teh misatke of just assuming the MC and girl have to fuck on screen to set up the relashionship. They show one bad sex scene, then call it good enough. When They would be better off actually building a reason for the MC to care about the girl other than a one night stand.

Thats why momxbully NTR is usualy pretty good, since they cant just have the son and mom fuck once and call it good. (usualy) They have to build a reason for the son to be upset that he loses his mom by showing them as a happy family first.
