Don't forget the bane of everyone's existence, the so-called Ren'Py "sandbox." Possibly the worst idea known to man. The perfect compromise where you lose the streamlined, straightforward nature of the VN format, but without gaining any actual gameplay or freedom to look around and progress at your own pace.

Frist advice Use cheats I cheat on all the games that use the default implementation of the combat or any one that shows signs of grindy combat.
as for recomendations.
NTRPG2, and 1 just because 1 has historic value is not that great.

as you mentioned some of these games have aquired taste art. I am personally ok with it because I prefer unrealistic art. is one of the reasons I do not like VAM games
there is also a couple of games where the characters are 2 girls. but I cant remember the names because they use the "Girl 1 and girl 2 + something else" pattern as their name they all can be found here though.
the only games I recomend to play ant not cheat are the SEQUEL games. but they are japanese grindy but at least you can see the developer put work in the combat and story.

RPGM gamers are vastly superior to VNs for me when it comes to NTR. Especially since mystery ntr is my jam and its very, very hard to convey well in VN form.
With rpgm, you get the sense of space. Can work with spatial sounds (creaking that gets louder as you move to source, then some moans etc). Works with silhouettes, just overall being able to make a "living" world where stuff happens. Like walking around and seeing some side events in henteria. Just searching around looking for the heroine, suspicious of whats happening. Nothing may be happening, but its a natural action that is impossible to replicate in VN form.
Its very rare that a VN can top that for me and its usually just on the basis of ridiculously good art, or it somehow circumventing the usual VN formula.

I think something similar can also be achieved with Unity in an RPG setting (like from the one ci-en I posted, maybe it's also another engine but it looks like Unity) but yea I agree that in general RPG game-engine can convey the feeling much better than VN's
true, with RPGM, you can basically have a whole lot of mechanics to play around with, especially with NTR type of game where you can control the MC to explore the map at the scenes come at you organically instead of force (if that make sense). But most dev either become lazy, or has limited manpower/resources to play around with that mechanics and thus turn it into another CG-type hunter game and if that's the case he should go with the VN gamestyle.
But there are some very good VN game tho, but its quite rare.

The problem is when it comes to NTR games alot of devs don't realize what kind of work it takes to make a game stand out. Alot of devs want to profit on basis of good art alone and their games become really stale. The games with in-depth mechanics are usually the ones that end in long-time development, but could end up being really good once they finally release. I think a good example of a game with a nice NTR mechanic is Solgante, even though I think the DLC was kinda disappointing the main UB route in Solgante was fantastic.

You got a ci-en link for that? I usually track things via Ci-en. If it is western, I don't usually follow western games unless I liked the art style or not straight up cuckoldry or willingly cheating.
