Cuckoldry is mostly tied to humiliation of the cuck "knowingly" letting his significant other getting fucked. It's like netorase with extra steps.

Netorare and cuckoldry, in their pure forms, are fairly similar in meaning.
But over time in popular culture, netorare has drifted to MC disliking it, and cuckoldry to MC liking it.

in my mind cuckold is just the english for NTR

if we can break down netorare into netorase, netori, etc

I think cuckold can be broken down into different types, but netorare/netorase/netori are mutually exclusive by definition.

Cuckoldry is not necessarily NTR.

Whether or not it is Netorare depends on how the plot unfolds.

Assuming the protagonist is male:
Netorare - Protagonist is cuckolded against their will
Netorase - Protagonist is cuckolded but approves of it or is fine with it, also called Hotwifing
Netori - Protagonist cuckolds others

Assuming the protagonist is female:
Netorare - Protagonist cheats on husband/boyfriend (Protagonist is a cuckoldress)
Netorase - Protagonist has sex with someone other than husband/boyfriend with their approval (Protagonist is a Hotwife)

There is also NTR BSS, where the crush has sex with someone other than the protagonist. Technically not cuckoldry since they're not together but the stories are otherwise similar and the crush and protagonist usually have feelings for each other.

NTR (Netorare) is a very specific kind of story while Cuckoldry is more broad story wise.

I prefer using the Japanese terms because the English terms are so far removed from their original definition it makes debating them almost pointless.

Depending on who you ask each one has a different meaning depending on where/when the person learned about them. It's made worse by porn sites using hotwife, cuckold, stag, swingers etc interchangeably with each other. The current discussion about what cuckold means is a perfect example of the problem.

While netorare, netorase and netori aren't perfect by any means and are still misused often (mostly this sites limited tag systems's fault). They're used far more consistently than the English terms and don't require digging into the devs/authors personal definition of what cuckold, hotwife, stag etc means.

Most of the debates around what netorare, netorase, netori mean only happen when people try and contrast them to English terms as well

Exactly. Netorare/Netorase/Netori tags refer exclusively to the main character's point of view. Otherwise every game tagged netorare or netorase would also have to be tagged netori. Whereas tags like cheating etc aren't specific about which characters they refer to and their side in the dynamic.

If you must recommend a game with avoidable NTR, please only recommend those in which it is very difficult or complicated to avoid it.
