Why not just accept that the price for videos games have gone up?

Paying $60 is like paying for the base model of a car--buying a car without any options probably results in a lackluster ride that the manufacturer didn't intend for most customers. But hey, this leaves it up to the individual consumer to make this tradeoff between experience and cost based on their individual preferences and cirumstance, while making it possible for those least willing or able to buy the options to at least get the car/game.
Well.. then they should charge more initially and leave out additional paywalls instead of implementing a lootbox system that originated from FREE TO PLAY games to fund those FREE to play games because they don't charge initially.

This is because they want a high volume of sales vs a smaller volume with higher margins. If we kept up with AAA titles in the 70s or 80s we should be paying a little over 100 bucks per title new. But they didn't sell near the volume we do today, and the used market was where many purchased their games due to the expense.

Fast forward and people think anything over 60 is expensive, but buying a box game is becoming more and more rare and for PC users, the steam library or GOG is just too convenient, leaving us to always buy titles new. Even games 30 years old or more!

Honestly by sales volume alone, gaming companies are making more profits than ever before. The issue is, Publishers like EA spend so much in marketing and useless crap that they eat up all the profits. Publishers are becoming the dinosaur that needs to go extinct. When AAA titles can crowdfund 150 million to build a title, who the hell needs a publisher? Your game should never report a loss (unless your stupid) and always break even or profit.

I think MTs are good for F2P games but lootboxes have no place in the market to be purchased. If you want to play with lootboxes make those free, then MT the items inside and you have at least a semi-ethical business model.

oh, how convenient it is that someone should say this given the video i was about to link.

yeah, the price of video games has increased. it is increased when devs cut content then sell said "cut content" as DLC and it's raised via microtransactions and loot boxes. and in destiny 2's case, it looks like the games actual price is currently in the $10k+ range. hope anyone who starts playing this game has some deep pockets and a lot of luck cause if lacking the latter, the price could go even higher.

i rented Megadimension Neptunia VII (which turned out to be little more than some eye candy/fan service overall) and taking into account all the weapons, costumes, and coliseum battles sold as DLC... the actual price of the game isn't $60 but rather it's somewhere around $160-260+. why? because instead of leaving all that content IN the game as unlockables, the devs were greedy, cut the content, and sold it as extra on top of the initial $60 price tag. which happens a LOT with console games.

@spambot no, i won't accept that the cost of making video games actually hasn't gone up all that much. it's just that game devs are simply getting greedier over time.

actually, loot boxes didn't originate in free-to-play games. you can thank EA for being the origin of loot boxes.

(pardon the double post but seeing as the last one is over a week old...)

unbelievable... after all they've (bungie) done, they now want to try and pull the "it's too hard to make new content" card.

these people don't deserve anybodies money.

"it's too hard"

it wasn't too hard for you to setup an entire holiday event (The Dawning) specifically in such a way that it was impossible to get all of said events content without giving you more money and in a way that would remove said content from the game forever once the event ended was it?

greedy darn... here's hoping jim sterling gets wind of this because i highly doubt he'd be as...friendly as yongyea.
