Well, we don't know much about Axel other than what we see. He's charming, handsome and insane. He literally shoved Mike with one hand outside the bar and can also shove Ian (non-gym).
Certain choices will compound later in the game to have a happy Wade. One right now is him breaking up with Cindy at the beach and taking it like a champ.

There is seemingly a path, but we haven't seen the conclusion to it yet. The beach house event was a coming to Jesus moment for Wade, and if Ian has helped guide Wade and Cindy relationship. Wade at the very least decides to break up amicably with Cindy. Which is the first step in saving him at the moment.

Ian can't be in a loving relationship with Cindy and Lena at the same time. You need to choose one. If Ian is with Lena then Wade/Cindy score will matter.
