Perry isn't necessary at all.
There is nothing that Perry brings to the story that can't be done better other ways other than being the annoying shit he is.
The connections can be built through jobs, events, locations. The conflicts and jealousies discovery of betrayal and cheating can all be found better ways.
Having the MC roommate with such a character is absorbed. It would be worse than living with Newman from Seinfeld.

But my way: Perry digs five holes, fills them up, and then enrolls in medical school in France, leaving the story. How can you improve on that brevity?

Yes, but depend on the route you are playing. For me was:

1. Alison sent sex pictures (fucked Alisson)
2. Cherry bath video call (fucked Cherry)
3. I believe there is more sex scenes of the threesome now
4. I also believe there is more scenes of sex of Lena and Seymour now
