This is to EK's credit a realistic depiction of one of the great dilemmas of modern dating, is it not? Attraction to the "alpha" while the more relationship-compatible guy is overlooked. But if the attraction is not there, it just isn't. Then going for the stable guy is just settling, which is a viable mating strategy but typically not common at Lena's age.

I always find it weird people say dating Ian is settling. I guess if you don’t do the IanxLena path maybe it would seem that way but the dude shares similar interests to her, she says many times how she finds him aesthetically appealing, sexually they are very compatible (as is shown many times), and he seems to really care about her. Depending on how you play it he is even willing to support her kinks.

If that is “settling” I think a whole lot of people would be more willing to settle. Now if Ian was like Robert or Jeremy someone she is a lot less similar to and also a lot less sexually compatible with I would agree but come on that is clearly not the case with Ian.

I'm more interested in LenaxHolly route, as that reflect my reality a lot more, I basically ignore all other lenax route other then maybe louise, emma or ivy route (if there is one). Ian is whatever. So, for the record. I think all of chapter 1 has been rewritten. On top of the changes to Ian's half of the story I've already mentioned in a previous post.

A small note, but if it was a rewrite then it was done years ago. The game played like that for me when i tried it for the first time (which was build 10.3 or so) and in fact, i had no idea any of that was at some point any different.

Ian wouldn't be able to compete if there was a conventionally normal male who is not a douche in Lena's backyard, let's be honest here.

Ian is "conventionally normal male who is not a douche in Lena's backyard". I have no idea what is your mental image of such guy, if you think Ian wouldn't be able to compete effectively with himself. But suffice to say, it's likely quite exaggerated and far from "conventionally normal".

My bad, Ian is a multi-talented 26 year old literature magazine intern. We're gonna put it on his resume. But does he front a regionally successful Deftones cover band like the guy I just made up in my head? I don't think so.

Incidentally, "fronts regionally successful cover band" is quite far from "conventionally normal". The conventionally normal don't front bands, and when they do it's normally not successful. Most bands aren't.

I played a 100% pro-Axel route, and he seems to make amends to Lena somewhat. Not ideal perhaps, but the attraction to Axel is just way stronger than to the other LIs.

Lena's attraction is 100% driven by the player's choices. If you focus on Axel, she'll be crazy about Axel while if you give him a slip she won't warrant him a second thought. Same for Ian and Mike and Seymour. She can be head over heels for any of them.

So no, using this for reasoning that he is "the best option" is misguided. Any of her options is potentially "the best option" as far as Lena's attraction is concerned.

You don't get why someone playing a porn game would want to see as many scenes as possible? As for the big dicks, maybe it's because it's visually striking, and looks better to see a hot gal work than it is to see their head or hips barely move, maybe it's because since the focus is on the hot gal, it's easier to self-insert as the male talent and imagine yourself railing the nymphomaniac. Eva is a very talented sex writer, but there are some times when it feels like ORS would benefit from not being a sex game. There's a lot of nuance and complexity in some of the storylines, and then the next scene has some fan service or a sex scene because it feels necessary for the genre, but it's jarring having the two scenes side by side. It is very much driven by choice, so it is possible to have a sex light story or a porn heavy themed narrative, but it is one of the few games where I could imagine if Eva moved on and just wrote sfw dating sims, she'd probably do quite well.

There's a lot of nuance and complexity in some of the storylines, and then the next scene has some fan service or a sex scene because it feels necessary for the genre, but it's jarring having the two scenes side by side.

To be fair, i think that some of the sex scenes actually add a lot to the narrative at certain points. Like that scene with Ian punishing Lena, e.g.? Not only it's fire, but it also shows very well how the whole cheating thing has affected their relationship going forward, as well as Ian's (and Lena's) feelings at the moment. Same for the trinity scene and some others, early in the game.

So i don't think it's jarring or that EK's games would necessarily be better if they're made purely sfw. There are some sex scenes which wouldn't make difference if they're removed, but overall i think EK's games would do better as equivalent of those romance novels, which do include some sex at the end of the day. It's just not main focus.
