Ian can be potentially different people. Essentially he's a nerd. But a nerd with a lot of drive, and he's also quite adaptable. And that means you can literally push him in any direction. Compare that with Stan, who is pretty much stuck in his ways, and you can't really change him significantly. He needs to be with somebody who is already like him, not somebody who isn't. Because of what she has to do to earn a living, Lena is never going to become more like Stan, so the onus is on Stan to become more like her. Which seems highly unlikely that it will ever happen. If Lena-Stan is so unrealistic how come Holly-Ian ever makes sense?
People in this thread always talk how Ian is this winner chad, why will he go for the geek when he has better options?
I agree with you about Holly-Stan btw.
Eva has constructed Stan in a particular way. And whilst it's eminently possible for Ian to bridge the gap between him and Lena. It's much harder for Stan to do the same thing. Because whilst they both start out lacking confidence. They lack it for different reasons. Ian has already been in a relationship with a hot girl and he's not inexperienced when it comes to sex. He just lost his confidence, because his last relationship ended badly. Whereas, Stan never had it to begin with.
The reason why Ian would choose Holly is obvious. She may be a geek, but she's a very successful geek, in the occupation Ian wants to pursue. He admires her as an artist and they're kindred spirits, who both share the same overriding passion for literature. He may not be physically attracted to Holly, in the same way he is with Lena or Cindy, but the things they share outside of sex, could lead to an equally intense relationship.
