Including Ed wouldn't overwhelm the cast with older men, he and Seymour would still be a minority vs the amount of male characters (especially since newcomers like Mark, Marcel and Clark are on the run). Ed would be a good contrast to Seymour and even Arthur with being more sympathetic and homely. While he wasn't particularly... eloquent, with what he was saying. The opposite of what you said, and what I think SerHawkes was trying to get it, can also be true. Just because a fetish exists, doesn't mean it needs to be shoe horned into a game just to cater to that fetish.
Personally, I like that the Ed storyline was dropped and that he and Molly are now just a lovingly married couple. It makes them actual characters, rather than just a fetish to be check marked. Considering Eva has made a very intentional choice to make ORS more of an actual plot driven character focused story; Ed and Molly, for me, go a long way to make that a true statement.
