The book trip is not necessary for the trinity route. Simply be as nice as possible to Holly while dating Lena and pick the options that say you think Holly is attractive as Ian. Same goes with Lena, pick all options that get you as close as possible with Holly and the beach scene will eventually happen.

At still somewhat the start of the game, I get this outfit choice. Both other outfits are greyed out. Is that just to tease the upcoming possibilities, or did I miss out on different clothes somehow?

If you want, you can use cheat mode when starting a new game. It gives you max stats right from the beginning. Of course, how you choose to play is entirely up to you. I usually play this way because I’m mainly interested in the story and exploring different choices to see how things turn out.

Played the game a loong time ago and forgot everything. So I thought I may as well do a pretty blind first playthrough on the "intended" difficulty. Hopefully I wont screw myself over too much.

No worries you’ve got the solution I mentioned earlier to help you out. You can also use mods if you need to like the multimod in the OP or the URM-UCD combo. The latter is especially helpful for showing the conditions behind choices and details of their scripts and effects. And of course you can always save scum if that’s your thing.
For more specific things like steps to follow certain routes, check out the pinned walkthroughs in the OP. You can also search through the thread since someone has probably already answered these kind of questions. The search function is really useful, even though people often forget about it.

No I really wish EK would removed the early scenes of Ed since, the plotline goes nowhere it just makes Ed a worse character for no reason.

I completely agree with you. It doesn’t make much sense that those scenes between Lena and Ed were kept, especially since it’s clear EK has no plans to continue that route. They feel out of place now.
On top of that, they harm Ed’s character for no good reason. It takes away from the warm and friendly atmosphere of the café scenes with him and Molly, which were actually quite enjoyable. Having to either confront him or ignore his bad behavior toward Lena puts you in a tough spot. You’re forced to choose between keeping your relationship points or doing what feels right, and neither option is great.
Honestly, those parts should have been removed completely.
