That's correct. But for a cleaner, more discreet cheating route, it's better for Ian to not have sex with Allison/Cherry and go with Emma and Minerva all the way and have sex with Cindy only at her house. From Lena's perspective, if you have sex only once with Robert and Mike, when Ian and Lena want a serious relationship, neither of them are going to mention that they've played the field and have been curious...so it's a perfect combination.

How would the fabled Ian-Lena-Holly Trinity work?
I assume for it to work Ian and Lena have to date. Then Ian sleeps with Holly and can decide how to go about it:
1. If Ian dates Holly, Lena is dumped. She hesitates to kiss Holly and seems to be jealous, Overall, this choice would lead to Ian/Holly with Lena cast aside.

I think it's impossible to know for now, but I'm guessing the key is to not sleep with Holly at the book fair, only kiss her. Then Ian and Lena can continue to date, while Lena can still have that same "hesitate to kiss Holly" moment. That leaves us with a status quo where they're a couple by now, but are still both developing feelings for Holly. In that scenario Holly seems to have feelings for both of them as well (Ian from the start, Lena more gradually), which sets us up pretty well for a moment further down the line where all three realise they have feelings for each other.
Actually there's a way out, after the first sex scene with Cherry if you have Ian pick the "wrong "option and try to be clingy ("thought we could be more" or something like that) then Cherry won't automatically try to sleep with Ian on their 2nd date.
