I don't see why in any of the cases (other than the world that they are in it) cannot have both magical creatures+robots+mutants.

It all depends what you're thinking on creating about the world we are in it, medieval could be like this one (cities, towers, dungeons, etc), and the post apocalyptic/sci-fi? We will use ships, fly through the space? Or use a random planet with weird things in it like fallout?

Just fyi, if it's an Apocalypse, I would prefer = Medieval/Mythology-fantasy (Melee/Projectiles, Magic, Creatures) + a slight tone of sci-fi, like in the old-school Might & Magic games (3 to 6)
