I think my biggest pet peev is over exaggerated proportions. Tits the size of basketballs, dicks the size of baseball bats, etc. Does nothing for me. Zero appeal. I'll take characters who look physically fit but have proportions achievable without drugs or surgery any day over that. Hell, I'd take a girl with abs but no butt and a flat chest over that.

I'm not gonna judge other people's fetishes, but I think there are some tags that are routinely done badly due to bad writing:
Blackmail - the plots rarely make sense, wouldn't work IRL
BDSM - needs to be a tag distinction between consensual BDSM and rape with bondage
Rape - especially in Japanese games where the victim starts to enjoy it. GTFO with that, unless she's been shown to be a hardcore masochist.

Eh, better than the alternative of having games which misrepresent Stockholm Syndrome as "love" not tagged as rape. And prior to that "starts to enjoy it" moment those scenes still satisfy the most restrictive "anti-woke" definitions of rape regardless.

I'm gonna pretend 'engine' counts as a tag and say Ren'py. I still don't really get why so many people demand that games made in better engines, like HTML or Unity, get remade in Ren'py, but it's often just slower and broadly worse. Ren'py is overrated as a game engine, and thus as a tag for games on this site.
In what ways do you consider them to be better? In my personal experience the go-to HTML template has worse interface and controls for saving/loading, more issues with wasted space, worse decision inputs in the form of text links in place of buttons and even though I like scrolling through longer texts I've had issues where mousewheel scroll didn't work properly due to poorly dimensioned and thus independently scrollable side bars.
Unity tends to be very hit-or-miss but that's clearly because of individual design decisions. The apparent absence of a standard UI template might qualify as criticism of the engine but on the flip side that has led me to perceive Unity games as "trying something different".
I do agree with your specific gripe out of more general considerations though. Expecting the devs to remake the game in a different engine they probably have no experience with, even an objectively better engine, usually is an absurd waste of time. The main exceptions would be if the game is being remade anyway or the original engine was never fit for purpose to begin with e.g. a VN made in RPGM.

It's that or it works like a mind control tool that always works when the victim gets enough of it.
Maybe it's ironic, but Vae Victis is one game that pulls that off without really showing a character's masochism earlier, imo that's because the normal in that game is that rape victims hate it. So the entire game context also tells "this lady is strange and messed up".

I think the most reasonable interpretation of "overrated" is the antonym to "underserved niche." Then again, you've got people pretending that harem's problem is that it's not vanilla enough, so reasonable is out the window.

Rape and mindcontrol is not same level for me. In IRL you can avoid be rape victim by making choices that will not put you posision. Mindcontrol are usually no logical surprise what you cant avoid, couse there is no logical steps and hints to avoid it. So Rape in afult games when its logically added is acceptable. Mind control there is no logic usually.

I think i offered a fairly easily solution to this problem before:
You just assign a tag to a game only if the game has like 3-5 scenes involving that tag.
So far the staff doesn't seem to give a lot of shit about this idea.

While I like that idea, it wouldn't work for people who desperately want to avoid ANY scene of a certain genre. For example, plenty anti netorare folks would decry even one netorare scene. I think a sort of 3 color system would work better, where (just an example) pink is light involvement, green is medium involvement and orange is heavy involvement. So you can see 'mm, pink lesbian tag? nty, I need at least a green tag' Or something.
