Regardeing the menu it's more about opening it and call me old fashioned, but I hate playing RPGM games with a mouse... I can accept useing the mouse interact with buttons as still Events though I am more of a hotkey gamer.I agree. This is rpg maker tho, its hard if not impossible to achieve specific things due to engine limitations. Plugins can't do everything. Even the option for enemies to find the path to the player doesn't work properly, as it is. This engine was not intended for such things, but I hate the turn based rpg maker combat. If the game was made in unity it would be a different story. I will look more into it. As for X button near menu its the same story. Just press right click to close the menu. Cheers!
And in regards to limitation of the engine in active combat maybe take a look at games of Siren's Domain or Nergals "A Zombies Live".
Not to dis you but these games managed to include this kind of combat and make it work far less flawed.
