And where exactly do you get this "0" exactly ? They've outsourced their security to a specialized company, like they already have for the identity verification (now outsources to Jumio) few weeks ago. And it's a positive move, both for the creators, that will benefit from a better security, and for Patreon, that reduced his costs.

I generalize, but honestly, if you've done a good job, being a security admin is a boring job. You'll pass 90% of your time reading about computer security while looking at green lights. And as a company you've to pay enough people to have someone in front of the said lights 24/24 7/7.
Outsourcing this part of your network administration will cost you less, and if you choose a big enough company for this, you'll have the guaranty that whatever happen to you, the admin who will take the issue in charge know what he do. The last point is important, because with an internal team, like they previously had, you've no guaranty that at least one of the admin while have the knowledge to counter the current attack.

All this being said as pure speculation, my "their team was 5 persons" was really a joke.
So far we only know that they fired 5 persons from the security team. Five persons who could perfectly have been in charge of the creator identification and payment processing, and are now useless since, like I said, this is now outsourced to Jumio.

Exposing peoples who break Patreon's rules is a good thing.

Hmm, no, I change that. The good thing would be to report the account to Patreon, for them to act. But well, who am I to judge streamers who are using this issue as clickbait ? It's not like they are themselves exploiting those (representation of?) children in order to earn more money.

100% this. A lot of devs are "How long until our identities are exposed by in breach?" without realizing that a lot this outsourcing is going to far more competent groups/companies that, as you said, specialize in this stuff. Then you start hearing the what if's about people losing their jobs or getting arrested in the unlikely event that a hack/breach did happen. If they had something to lose/were putting their life at risk, then why would you put yourself in harm's way? It's like walking in the middle of the street at night and getting angry when the car hits you.

From what I've heard, it's more Patreon's Department of Internet Crimes and General Identity Theft absorbing the security team's duties and outsourcing everything else than any kind of general incompetency. They were more or less a redundant team.

You know, that movement led by some alt-right guy who was deplatformed and was trying to convince thousands of people to take Patreon to Cali's arbitration system because of their muddy terms of service. It also seemed like the real game over for Patreon, at least according to quite a few 'wisemen' (totally uninterested and well-informed people) that populated this forum back then.

That's true. The thing is that I can not find any single piece of news about how that arbitration eventually went, what kind of agreement they reached (if any), or most importantly, how many people actually started an arbitration process after that successful lawsuit. Because, according to the 'qualified' and 'totally balanced' voices we heard back then, that massive arbitration process was going to be Patreon's financial doomsday, as they would need to pay some fees for every single case; however, no one seems interested in telling what actually happened in the end. Google only shows the potential consequences after that first judge's decision in August 2020, but then nobody did a proper follow-up on the case. This I find strange, considering how many people were totally convinced it was going to mean the end for evil Patreon.

And it leads to the point I was trying to make. There are always people in this forum very keen to pick a controversial piece of news to announce the end of Patreon's vile regime. And all I always tend to find after digging a bit is just an ordinary company growing steadily and healthy, and adapting their initially limited (and sometimes not very well designed) structures to the new reality of their bigger size.

Now please explain how getting rid of a few members of the staff and outsourcing those roles to bigger and more experienced companies means a risk for Patreon's users. And also enlighten me about what those 'very not-good changes' may be.

Here's the thread you didn't bother to search about that lawsuit and that proves that you are not the first one in this forum making half-assed assumptions (casually, all of them are against Patreon) out of a totally innocuous thing.

The whole thing was one salty guy after being banned trying to get tens or hundreds of thousands of people to spend a couple of hundred bucks each on a bogus lawsuit in hopes of sinking Patreon in lawyering costs and that no judge or Patreon would notice the malicious brigading and reject them all in a single act.

Needless to say, it was never going to work out.
