You can search the area for pumpkin and potatoes, as for wheat you can buy it from farmer 4 wheat for 20 coins. Go to the rented field you'll need shovel and then you have to click on sign board, where you'll be given option, which plant you want to crop and voila.

because that seems to be a single user problem... not with the build.
check the options wether or not you turned those off
