Native. No idea why, but I'd assume it's because most western people probably also think "Harem" when they see Pimp anyway.
On the other hand, "Harem" itself could imply polyamory or polygamy, and the very idea of loving multiple partners simultaneously without it being prostitution, just rubs some people the wrong way.
I wouldn't be surprised to hear someone say "having sex with multiple people for money isn't a big deal, but being in love with multiple people is "unnatural" and "wrong".".
