Thing is, you're not supposed to use the door, but use Gardevoir's psychic powers to clear the rocks from the path and jump down a hole to find Viruark. My guess for the door is that it was a planned thing, but just left in between builds

Flying practice with a load of lag spikes is the most miserable experience with a game in pokemon essentials
There's no point in optimizing my path to the single step if I'm lagged out in front of a gem and end up wasting two seconds

Either I don’t know what a “turn” is, or else there’s a bug with retaliate, because little tube boy oneshot three of my pokemon in a row with it. They were all level 18–19.

Also, I have to ask: will all the pokemon available for H-scenes be unique NPCs that will go through the secret grove method? or will wild pokemon that we catch be available one day too? I’m asking because I though it’d be cool to have normal and shiny variants of each, and the H-mechanics would be better integrated into the game, as opposed to be a separate system.

By the way, I’ve had this same problem in normal Pokémon games, but how the hell do you avoid just sitting on your starter for everything? Despite trying to grind my wild-caught pokémon to the level of the gym boss, they all get oneshot, but my starter, who’s just a couple levels higher, can take on the whole team herself. This also makes it hard to level other pokémon up, since only trainer battles give real exp, and only my starter is strong enough to actually get any kills in.

Other thing is, I know nothing about competitive pokémon, so the team building aspect is miles beyond me.

i very strongly doubt that the devs want to draw 900 sex scenes for wild pokemon, or double that if there are two scenes per species, etc. it's much more manageable to have 4-6, maybe even 10, scenes each for ~20-30 special 'mons. it's still a ton of work to draw even that many, and the story so far is much more emphasizing caring relationships than just casual sex with anything that moves, so the h-scenes are much better integrated into the story this way.
...hard to level other pokémon up...
there's a trainer in some of the cities that you can rematch freely; he has six audino, which are fairly easy to beat and give approximately the most exp of any pokemon at their level, and this trainer's sole purpose is to make grinding for levels easy

The old, traditional way is to put a weak pokemon at the first slot, change back to your starter right away, shrug off one hit, then kill the opponent for shared EXP. Rinse and repeat.

An alternative is to use the Exp share item, which I recall you can buy for 5000 credits in this version.
The exp share item makes the holder share a portion of the battle exp gained even if they don't participate in a battle.

And of course, regarding this game, you can always do this in front of the Exp breeders that are stationed in various places. They pose minimal danger to your party and give tons of EXP.

Are they even planning to have 900 pokémon available? Do real Pokémon titles even have that many, without trading?

And I get your point—it would be a lot of work—but, when a “sex scene” is just one CG, and then the same CG with cum added, it doesn’t seem like an insurmountable task.

I think the devs make it pretty clear that guy’s supposed to be a last resort and they don’t want players to use him. Since I like to play games they way they’re “intended” (or give it a shot at first anyway—it’s not always fun, let alone possible), so I was hoping to get some insight into the intended solution.

Switching works somewhat for wild pokémon, but still ends up with the starter getting a lot more experience. The way trainer battles are balanced, however, I find it’s not really feasible to take free hits (unless you’re overlevelled), and that’s where the real experience is.

It is has potentially and a bit grindie even with pokemon breeder, like most pokemon, not much with replayability. Here's my walkthrough gameplay if you just want to see the story :
