The game gives you OP waifumons and legendaries so the difficulty assumes that you're using them with their OP abilities and moves. If you're the type of person who doesn't know the difference between special attacks and physical attacks it's going to be impossible for you but if you know how OP things like sleep or other tools you have are then you'll have an easier time of it.
here's the thing: i WAS using them

Why would you see a unique wild legendary pokemon and not try to catch it? It has drizzle which any good pokemon player knows is a god tier ability.
why would your first instinct be to catch it? the game's already set an expectation at that point of it working like all the previous ones before it where they're unable to be caught in battle and instead just given to you at the end of their event, and as i already said, it says nothing about needing to actually catch this one

Dragonite isn't the first pokemon you actually need to catch in fact I'm pretty sure you only get given other pokemon when you knock out or catch some other pokemon like sharpedo and even then those pokemon can be caught. Better yet why didn't you save before fighting it?

i'm specifically talking about the special pokemon like it that get given to you through events, i.e. the PTSD kirlia, the game literally blocks you from catching in battle the ones that you have to fight first, i.e. the mutant Zoroark, so i stopped trying to catch them on the realization that it doesn't work, and went into the mountain Dragonite fight with that same expectation it had established from the previous event pokemon of balls simply not working on it
also i did use buffs and statuses since most of the fights would be fucking impossible without them, especially the Steve Irwin clone that has 3 full restores, perfect held items, and in the regular game perfect stats, even most champion fights are less bullshit than that

then you didn't pay very much attention; the game doesn't block you from catching the kirlia, because you never even fight it. same for the buneary. so you already had evidence that the way you get special pokemon isn't always the same, you just ignored it.

this is an incredibly stupid argument because you still don't need to catch the kirlia and buneary, but mainly because i specifically said "blocks you from catching in battle the ones that you have to fight first", the one who should be paying more attention here is you
