I don't believe the game is hard to play. It's perhaps not a simple game to understand, but once you get the hang of the core mechanics such as turn based hex grid combat and card based flirting system it keeps rewarding you more and more. Pretty fun game IMHO.
the problem is that there's a winning formula, that isn't very obvious, and many people will get discouraged before they even start to get the hang of things.

this is one game that seriously suffers from content bloat. the sheer amount of features, mechanics, and different set of rules for each of them all set up a steep learning curve, where very often the reward doesn't match the effort needed to unlock it.

There's three general resource types you are working with. Short term is money and energy, medium term is character experience and portal progress, and long term is characters through breeding, MC skill points, and completing special story events. Short and medium resources work well enough but crafting characters you want for the endgame can run into unintuitive barriers. Breeding raising stats very slowly, random spread of traits from the parents, some species being really bad at breeding, and hatching always being a pain in the ass. The mandatory 2 days between generations if you get lucky with eggs from day 1 in a 30 day run is really painful. Even with primarily fusing characters you want bred ones for MC skill points.

It doesn't take much to keep a spirit or two in your party to suck up extra experience during your typical daily actions, reshaping them up to level 20 to fuse with some unit to bypass breeding to level 20. Beyond that is sorta opaque.

Thankfully the game is pretty well balanced for bumbling around and relying on uniques to keep you competitive through a normal run. Starting stabilized portal can be weirdly rough for MC + starters + two spirits, but within a few days you can take on most arena fights and explore non-special portals with some caution. The only tier above combat stuff to drop in a normal run is the greenskin world fights even with the aoe stuns it gives you. The rest are secret endings, obtaining tricky to obtain species, or leveling a specific character that isn't exciting for combat.

Oooh, so there was a bug I was unaware of. I thought You just annoyed by default cap of 5 stat changer potions per character.
I did not fix the bug, no credit for that.
Last time i played was one or two years ago so i don't remember much but i got fixated on potions cuz these was very useful, not just for stats but other stuff too.
But there is a limit for potion use AND the other potion for increasing limit of potion use was useless.

And btw i sucked at cheat at this game so thanks again .d

Time to provide something that maybe 1% of the people want, CHEATING DOESN'T PREVENT UNLOCKABLES. Sure I can understand the balancing aspect but this is a singleplayer game, and I like to earn my achievables even if I sometimes cheat for them. This does not however prevent your score from saying you cheated, but you (should) be able to unlock everything you can without cheating, provided you are on a correct difficulty mode.

WHAT, you want to be able to unlock stuff even under 100% modifier? Alright I got you, you dirty dog, added an optional upgrade that gives easy mode a 100% modifier, ensuring you will always be able to unlock basic stuff. WHAT YOU WANT MORE TRAITS, fuck it another optional upgrade that does the same as above, but makes the starting x1 20P for both MC and Starters give you 999 points to spend, although it doesn't update in the difficulty screen.

WARNING DO NOT INSTALL WITH A DIFFERENT VERSION, IT WILL BREAK YOUR GAME, most up to date for 0.28.0.2
I recommend keeping a backup of your original Assembly-CSharp.dll, to install simply drag and drop your preferred cheating .dll to PortalsOfPhereon_Data\Managed In case you have the brain of a goldfish, instructions and a brief description are included in the folder(s) themselves.
-edit
Fixed not unlocking achievements that require you to win the game whilst cheating, update if that matters to you otherwise V2 is the exact same.
Hello, do you have plans to update this for v29?

Very much this. And with so much options and mechanics if you are a newbie you get discouraged by rng and rising difficulty of enemies, and with anything but short runs taking ages since you need to learn and manage all the breeding, training, moneymaking, exploring, fusing, crafting and get the feeling you are not keeping up with the difficulty and just give up.

With the cheatmods help, i managed a fast 15 day run and won the game for the first time, ofc theres not much there to see sin ce i didnt find any secret endings and only some uniques.
But with its help i learned how to abuse the spirits to get maxlvl 20 genes and other stuff.
Ofcourse its all going to be a ton harder since you cant afford the upgrades for farm and hatcheryrooms etc so to stop cheating i would need to learn resource collection from portals...

I don't mind the difficulty, getting my ass kicked by a kraken and losing half of my team to it. I do however resent spending my time waiting and doing nothing (sleeping) in a game to recover full 400 stamina points. What advice could you vets give me (beyond milk) ?

Past a certain point, the waiting sucks all the enjoyment I get out of the game. I try to be exploring as often as possible, but sometimes my team needs to recover, and I'm back to waiting and waiting and... just watching the clock, missing events, since most everything depends on my MC and costs stamina.

I also would appreciate some pointers please (guide? wiki?) regarding breeding/fusion to get up to speed again. I thought I had understood how to achieve good results, but so much has changed that I doubt any of what I did remains viable in the current version. I just need guaranteed half-decent breeds with a good variety of stats and skills to tackle the portals.

I mostly play Life/Creation, indifferently.

One little thing that im noticed is that resting in portals is actually more effective than sleeping. Resting 2 hours in portal gives you a buff, that prevents spending stamina for 20 steps for all team and also recovers stamina if you had less that 5 points left. That basically allows you to explore portals without going back at all.

Building pool, sauna and crystal lights (unique builing for having 100 relation with Lumira) at home also increases stamina regen for everyone except MC. High metabolism genetic trait also doubles stamina regen but increases food consumption (also not for MC). Marrying Lumira doubles stamina regen for aquatic characters (except MC, again).

For MC stamina regen you can: drink milk, drink stamina potions (can only be found in unstable portals, or sometimes bought from Lumira if you start with merchant profession), marrying someone who is not town-NPC allows you to recover 60 stamina per sleep. Sleeping with library assistant also gives you 60 stamina instead of 50 but only once per day (you can trigger her events if you read in library when she is there).

Or you can always start with "easy" mode that simply doubles MC stamina regen with no drawbacks, it doesn't prevent you from unlocking anything and doesn't affect difficulty like death penalty or save modifiers.

Any good guides around? The only one I found is 3 years old and required me to fuse characters right from the start, but since I don't start with crystals, that is not really an option :p
