I am currently running it on wine with an Ubuntu-based distribution. My first try is to check and play around with renderers because some games I do not like vulkan and some do.
how do you do this? this is coming from someone thats not that into tech that much either

Generally you don't. Just install dxvk, and that will emulate multiple versions of DirectX on top of vulkan and no game the wiser, works for all games (including Princess Reconquista).

For installing components you can use winetricks, that provides a GUI and you can just click and everything is done for you.
Otherwise to answer your question, to configure which DLLs are emulated, use winecfg, go to Libraries tab (builtin = emulated, native = use installed). For example add d3d11 as native to use the DirectX version you have manually installed. You can also alter these with environment variables and wine flags, but I guess having a GUI is better for you.

Is there any scene viewer?

Edit: I couldn't find any mods or anything like that but I did find this, for anyone wondering the same thing -

Yep, GAME RIPPER.

It is now a multi-platform and multi-engine tool, but it actually started its life specifically as a PR scene viewer (first ever version can be found here, called gallery.exe, although that one does not work with the latest PR versions because the PGMMV engine has changed encrypting method, GR support them all).

Just gave it a go and I can only find UI related sprites when I unpack PR in the exe. No actual H scenes. Am I missing a step?

Addon: Found the 'unpacked' file in the game's folder but it still doesn't feature any H-scenes. Just seems to be a bunch of random images.

Nevermind, I was just using the first version of the unpacker. Go directly to the first codeberg link and download the tool as a ZIP. There, you can find versions for both Linux and Windows.

Yeah, there's no difference in H scenes and other UI elements from technical point of view, the engine (PGMMV) stores them both exactly the same way, so you'll see them in the gallery mixed.
