Actually, see my other reply, you are giving wrong information, because you are referring to one official version, while there are actually two.I like correcting people (such as yourself) who like to consistantly and constantly give bad and wrong information (in whatever thread you're in) so that people who follow the thread, especially new players, don't read comments such as yours and take them as fact. That's my problem, man.
The patch doesn't even make sense as Anthony is up on an attempted spousal murder charge...she wouldn't even need to go to court in the first place to get sole custody if Marc was hers, thus the whole actual point of that part of the story.
About the court hearing, actually, you got wrong the sequence.
First they go to court for the custody, then, Anthony tries to kill Myriam for revenge.
Which means the court part still makes sense, actually, makes more sense if they are married. A custody battle between divorcing couples, happens often.
If Marc was not her son and there was no divorce, it is much more complicated to justify the hearing as presented as a realistic thing (notice Zolrun clearly indicated he had no intention of being realistic).
The fact Myriam accuses Anthony of "domestic" violence, does not have an automatic impact on him retaining the paternal authority on Marc, considering there is no indication whatsoever of any violence by Anthony towards Marc, and considering that the non-existing legal status between Myriam and Anthony means Myriam has by default not legal authority on Marc.
In that case, only if a judge decided to take away that authority from Anthony (which is a specific procedure and hearing), eventually after the shooting, then Myriam could try to get temporary custody as a preliminary to an adoption, but would be far more complex than the hearing presented (that again, is before the shooting).
She would have more weight than the first person passing in the street, but would still not have the mother link, and a judge could decide that is the best interest of the kid not to be caught in the middle of a fight between his father and a partner that is not his mother and met him when already grown up, and put him in a foster home temporarily.
You just have to go on an older save and redo the scene, if the last events is a path you don't want to explore, the game as a lot of choices, some are for flavor, some for story and some do have consequences.

I don't see the point of fighting over this, both sides are true and both sides are wrong, it all depend of the perspective you're sitting from.
There was an original setting, where Myriam and Anthony were Katherine's and Marc's parents, but it was long abandoned, most of the game was built on the current setting where Myriam is Katherine's mother and Anthony is Marc's father. Both are certainly true, but not at the same time.
I think the best way in the future to avoid any pointless conflict (and I don't mean that the opinions are pointless, I mean the fight is, it's a just a game, don't go sour your day over it), would be to talk about OGS (original game setting) and MGS (main game setting), ouch2020 is exploring OGS with his patch and the game as I write it is obviously on the MGS.
Don't know if it will help her fans get in a circle and chant kumbaya around Myriam's naked body or create a new bloody revolution over the dead mangled body of her fans... But I do hope for the former (and just in case I'm using the word wrong, I mean the kumbaya one ^^ ).

There is no "older save" just the "save." Going back to the auto ones won't go back NEAR that far.
Which is why most players will manually save relatively frequently.

True, I don't like when someone seems to go on a crusade to defend the MGS as the only holy truth
blasting people who may like the OGS, so I tend to intervene to remind them if there had not been Patreon intervention, there would be only one revealed truth (I start to sound like the first priest of Myriam's church ;-), you get to be her messiah) and no patch from me (with no work for me, and no complaints about the delays on releasing it).But putting aside the religious jokes
for me it is really because I think people should not go around blasting about a game - honestly, I think people go blasting too much even in real life, even if it is for practical things, so, even less they should do it for a game. On the subject of religion and cult, funny thing is at first when I started the game, one of the numerous plot line I had in mind was about Myriam possibly getting into a weird cult after being hurt to much emotionally, the cult leader would have been one of the main villain at this point.
But when I reached the point where it could have been introduced, the game was already too big to add such a big plot line, it would have been nearly a game in itself, so I scrubbed it (I think I already mentioned it before, I'm not sure
).

Personally I don't bother with the patch from what I heard / read I think the changes are so subtle it's not that different from the original / un patched version to even matter.
